The interim appointee is welcome and encouraged to apply for the permanent role. Start date: immediate, target within 1-2 weeks of posting.
The Odyssey School of Denver is a diverse, K-8 Expeditionary Learning (EL) charter school. We believe in teaching students how to learn through a focus on academic achievement, critical thinking, and social responsibility, preparing them for high school and beyond. Our EL curriculum is supported by a robust outdoor Adventure program in which all students and staff participate.
The Interim K-4 Assistant Director is a member of the school's Leadership Team and works closely with the Executive Director to lead vision and strategy for instruction and culture, with a primary focus on the K-4 elementary program. The K-4 Assistant Director co-leads the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and the school-wide Mentor Program for new staff, and partners with the 5-8 Assistant Director to ensure cross-grade alignment and K-8 systems coherence.
Primary Responsibilities
Team Leadership
  • Serve as a member of the school Leadership Team.
  • Co-lead the schoolwide Mentor Program to support the ongoing needs of new staff members.
  • Oversee MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) processes and data for grades K-4.
  • Support the Intervention Team.

  • Partner with the 5-8 Assistant Director to support cross-grade alignment and K-8 systems coherence.
Instructional Coaching & Professional Development
  • Coach and support K-8 literacy teachers through observations, feedback, and coaching meetings.
  • Design and facilitate professional development that models best practice in literacy instruction to support teacher and student growth.
  • Develop relational trust with staff to support ongoing improvement in teaching and learning.
Curriculum
  • Provide K-8 curriculum development and planning support, including scope and sequence, scaffolding plans, and assessments aligned to state standards and EL Core Practices.
  • Support long- and short-term planning through planning support and feedback structures.
  • Support curriculum materials selection and procurement, K-8.
Assessment & Data Systems

  • Serve as Primary Site Assessment Liaison (SAL) for ACCESS and ISA administration; serve as Secondary SAL for CMAS.
  • Support Multilingual Learner (MLL) programming and progress monitoring.
  • Oversee K-4 grading and progress monitoring systems in collaboration with the Executive Director.

Culture, Character, and Positive Student Behavior
  • Oversee K-4 student culture and behavior, partnering with the Dean of Culture on schoolwide systems and restorative approaches.
  • Use Habits of a Learner to promote and communicate clear schoolwide expectations for character development and positive behavior.
  • Partner with teachers to develop classroom structures that ensure all students are well known and consistent classroom routines are in place.
  • Oversee K-4 Student-Led Conferences (SLCs) and Exhibition Nights.
  • Serve as a liaison to K-4 parents and facilitate parent education and involvement, including reinforcing school policies on discipline, homework, and events.
  • Welcome and support families in culturally responsive ways, and communicate with them regularly.

Qualifications
  • Given the short timeline of this posting, candidates who meet most, but not necessarily all, of the qualifications below are encouraged to apply. Immediate availability is required.
  • Minimum of five years' classroom teaching experience in EL schools or a similar model/program.
  • At least two years' experience in curriculum or program development that supports high-quality instruction.
  • Proven track record of driving high student achievement and growth through data-driven methods.
  • Strong communication, technology, and organization skills.
