JOB DESCRIPTION

To support the research initiatives of the University.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • The Functional Lung Imaging Laboratory in the Department of Anesthesiology at UTMB is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Scientist to contribute to research focused on understanding the early determinants of acute lung dysfunction and injury, particularly those associated with mechanical ventilation and systemic inflammation.
  • Our laboratory utilizes advanced Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) techniques.
  • We are looking for a candidate interested in pursuing an independent academic career in lung functional imaging, involving both animal and human studies, and the acquisition of physiological measurements during experiments.

PREFERRED QUAIFICATIONS:

  • Background in engineering, physics, or other quantitative sciences
  • Advanced knowledge in signal processing, image processing and analysis, including the use of AI techniques, numerical analysis, image registration, mathematical modeling, and tracer kinetics
  • Creative and systematic approach to complex problem-solving
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, and LabView
  • Experience in animal or human research, including clinical studies
  • Knowledge of respiratory pathophysiology
