Job Title: Brake and Tire Specialist
Immediate Supervisor: Maintenance Team Manager
Employees Supervised: None
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Purpose
The position of Brake and Tire Specialist for Exotics Racing at SpeedVegas is responsible for keeping vehicles running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Brake and Tire Specialists will typically work on maintaining high- performance vehicles by changing brake pads and brake rotors along with replacement of tires. The Brake and Tire Specialist tests the cars to ensure they are operating correctly and identify potential problems; also works on high performance steering and suspension, drivelines, electrical and ignition systems.
Essential Job Functions
  • Maintains vehicle functionality by conducting inspections, replacing parts, components and repairing body damage;
  • Tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing;
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs;
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs;
  • Stays on top of industry trends and job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications;
  • Seeks to meet organizational mission at an individual level through partnering with supervisory staff and communicating goals;
  • Manage and secure confidential information;
  • Ensures the shop and work area are maintained;
  • Regular and consistent attendance;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Abilities
Perform complex diagnostic procedures on all vehicle systems; determine appropriate maintenance and repairs; effectively use hand tools and automotive diagnostic equipment; interpret manufacturers’ specifications; generate and keep government-mandated computer records and files; layout, position and complete projects from blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions; inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; perform heavy physical labor; ability to work from plans and specifications; train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area; follow and give oral and written instructions; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.
Work Environment
May be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable; may be exposed to hazardous equipment and/or hazardous conditions requiring the need to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hard hats; may require working in very hot or very cold temperatures; may require working under covered structure with roof but no walls; requires working outdoors exposed to all weather conditions. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials; uses hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things; performs repetitive physical activities or mental activities without stopping. Requires contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone or otherwise). Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards.
Qualifications
Experience and Education: A Mechanic has earned at least a high school diploma or GED with additional course work through a technical trade school, community college or junior college. An understanding of diagnostic testing equipment is critical. Preferred four years as a apprentice-level mechanic in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting.

Knowledge
Thorough knowledge of the theory and complexities of automotive technology, care and operation of internal combustion engines as well as electric hybrids, current repair methods, materials and tools; applicable state and federal requirements; all aspects of metal fabrication; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment.
Engineering and Technology Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Computers and Electronics Knowledge of computers and technology related to the high-performance vehicles operating in our Fleet, including but not limited to: circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming of this equipment.
Public Safety and Security Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
