Job description

Join the Control Assemblies Team - Shape the Future of Automation!

Are you a passionate and driven Electrical Engineer eager to design cutting-edge control systems?

Control Assemblies is seeking a hands-on Advanced Control Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team in Plymouth, MN lead the full lifecycle of industrial automation projects — from initial scope and quote through commissioning and client handoff.

What You'll Do

You'll be the technical lead on automation projects across a range of industries, owning the work from first conversation with the client to final sign-off. Day to day, that means developing control system architectures, writing PLC logic, building HMI/SCADA applications, and getting out in the field to make it all work. You'll also carry a meaningful role in business development — estimating projects, writing proposals, and helping shape how we win work.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, Program and commission PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems across a variety of platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Ignition, iFIX, etc.)
  • Develop project scopes, labor estimates, and technical proposals for new opportunities
  • Manage assigned projects end-to-end: schedule, budget, deliverables, and client communication
  • Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
  • Troubleshoot control system issues during startup and support clients post-commissioning
  • Produce clear, maintainable documentation — functional specs, I/O lists, network diagrams, and O&M manuals

What We're Looking For

  • 5-10 years of experience in industrial automation and controls
  • Proficiency in at least one major PLC platform and SCADA/HMI development environment
  • Solid understanding of industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus)
  • Experience managing projects or the clear ability and drive to grow into that role
  • Willingness to travel to job sites (typically less than 20%)
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program is preferred, along with related experience in the field or a related area

Nice to Have

  • Experience with process industries (water/wastewater, food & bev, oil & gas, manufacturing)
  • Familiarity with electrical design and panel wiring
  • PMI certification
  • UL Mark Testing Representative (UL MTR) certification

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • Dental & Vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • 401(k) & Profit Sharing
