Job description

Responsible for leading quality and performance improvement initiatives that drive patient safety, reduce waste, improve process reliability, and optimize operational efficiency. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Memorial Health to apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies, facilitate change, and sustain measurable improvements in clinical and operational outcomes.

The Performance Improvement Consultant II leads system-level or cross-departmental projects and serve as a mentor for entry level consultants, who focus on unit-level projects under supervision. This role works with a high degree of autonomy while receiving strategic oversight and coaching from Master Black Belts and Quality Leadership.  This role works independently with minimal supervision. Handles moderately complex issues. Has departmental influence and cross-functional outcomes and may lead small project teams. This role is central to building a culture of continuous improvement by serving as a project leader, educator, and mentor, ensuring that initiatives align with Memorial Health's mission and deliver measurable impact on patient care and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Management Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Organizational Behavior, Healthcare Management or related field required. In lieu of Bachelor's degree, 5 years related experience will be considered. Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Analytics, or related discipline is preferred.Licensure/Certification/Registry: American Society of Quality (ASQ) Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification required. Must maintain certification through ASQ recertification process; Black Belt preferred.Experience: Minimum 2 years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas: Six Sigma and Lean Methodologies, Analytical Tools, and/or Team Facilitation Demonstrated success leading system-level or cross-departmental projects to improve outcomes, patient safety, or operational performance. Clinical experience highly desired. Familiarity with healthcare regulatory standards (Joint Commission, IDPH) or Baldrige Health Care criteria desired.Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Advanced ability to perform data analysis, identify trends, and translate findings into actionable strategies. Strong facilitation and change management skills to lead diverse teams. Ability to independently balance multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment Proven mentoring and coaching skills to guide Yellow Belts, Green Belts, and project team members. Proficient in statistical and quality improvement software (QI Macros, Minitab, Simul8, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite Familiarity with clinical workflows, EHRs, and healthcare data sources. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. Strong, analytical, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Strategic Quality and Performance Improvement

  • Lead large scale, cross-functional projects that reduce variation, improve outcomes, and optimize efficiency.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Lean Six Sigma, translating organizational strategy into measurable project execution.
  • Partner with Master Black Belts and Quality Leadership to align projects with system priorities and performance goals.
  • Data Analysis and Risk Assessment

  • Lead advanced analyses to support improvement projects and system-level decision making.
  • 5. Direct project teams in the use of analytic and risk assessment tools.
  • Ensure robust use of statistical methods to validate project outcomes and sustainability.
  • Develop and analyze mathematical and discrete event simulation models to evaluate potential business improvements before implementation.
  • Conduct FMEAs, Risk Assessments, and Prioritization Matrices.
  • Metrics and Reporting

  • Establish, monitor, and report project metrics and KPIs across departments and value streams.
  • Communicate findings to executive and operational leadership to drive accountability and action.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and processes to improve current work methods, increase safety, and enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Facilitate collaboration across multiple disciplines and hospitals within the system.
  • Partner with healthcare teams to prioritize improvement opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with Quality leadership to scope quality improvement opportunities aligned with system goals.
  • Support adoption and sustainability of improvements through structured change management.
  • Training, Mentorship, and Education

  • Mentor Yellow Belts and project team members in Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques.
  • Develop and deliver Lean Six Sigma and quality improvement education throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with Master Black Belts and Quality Leadership to evolve training programs and coach new team members.
  • Professional Development and Community Engagement

  • Maintain professional growth through ASQ recertification, continuing education, seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • Participate in community outreach and networking programs, such as local civic organizations and clubs that align with Memorial Health's mission.
