What is an IDEXX internship?

Idexx Internships are structured programs offered by IDEXX Laboratories, a global leader in veterinary diagnostics and software, for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in fields such as science, technology, engineering, business, and more. These internships typically take place during the summer and last for 10-12 weeks, providing interns with real-world projects, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Interns work alongside professionals, contribute to meaningful work, and learn about the animal health industry. IDEXX internships are designed to help participants develop their skills, explore career paths, and potentially transition into full-time roles at the company.

What can I expect in terms of mentorship and learning opportunities during an IDEXX internship?

As an IDEXX intern, you can expect to be paired with experienced professionals who provide regular mentorship and guidance throughout your internship. Interns often participate in structured onboarding, project-based assignments, and cross-functional team meetings, which foster both technical and professional growth. The work environment is collaborative, and interns are encouraged to ask questions, seek feedback, and take ownership of meaningful projects. These experiences not only build practical skills but also help interns explore potential career paths within the company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IDEXX intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IDEXX Intern, you generally need a solid academic background in life sciences, engineering, computer science, or a related field, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, data analysis software, or industry-specific tools like LIMS is often required, and relevant coursework or certifications can be advantageous. Become an Urgent Care Doctor at Scout Veterinary Urgent Care

What if your next role wasn’t just about treating pets—but about shaping the future of veterinary urgent care?

At Scout, we have a clear vision on urgent care and how this unique specialty fits into our profession and our communities. We’re clear about what we do (and don’t do), so you can focus on delivering excellent care and doing what's right for your patients. Our same-day and next-day appointment structure aims to truly partner with primary care and ER, allowing us to treat more sick and injured pets while creating a sustainable, fulfilling career for veterinary professionals. Urgent care can be stressful for pet parents, so our clinics are designed to make life easier—for our teams and for our clients. Our goal is to reduce friction at every step so that clients and professionals alike can focus on what matters most, helping pets.

  • Digital Radiography
  • Modern Ultrasound technology
  • Full IDEXX In-House Lab
  • Highly capable support staff (3 back of house team members working alongside you)

We don’t do overnight hospitalization or major surgeries—but we do empower our doctors to explore comprehensive answers and build strong referral relationships.

Who You Are

  • Licensed DVM in Illinois
  • 2+ years in GP or ER (internship preferred)
  • Detail-oriented, collaborative, and thrive in fast-paced settings
  • Strong communicator with a growth mindset
  • Committed to medical excellence and psychological safety

Schedule & Commitments

  • 40-hour average clinical week
  • 10am–8pm clinic hours
  • Monthly DVM/team meetings

We offer all the benefits you’ve come to expect – and then some.

  • $150k-$160k base + 20% production (no exclusions, no negative accrual) YES! You read that right. It’s easy for us, it’s easy for you. Everyone wins! Calculating your production shouldn’t take a math degree.
  • Financial and professional growth opportunities
  • Discretionary funds (in addition to CE allowance)
  • Unlimited CE allowance, license & uniform support
  • 401(k) with match after 90 days
  • Paid parental leave
  • Professional development support
