Job description

The role of the IDEAL College Advocate is to increase public awareness and support of the Lipscomb IDEAL Program and other college options across the state of Tennessee for students with intellectual disabilities. This is a crucial role for increasing knowledge of Inclusive Postsecondary Education Programs in Tennessee from a personal experience point of view. 

The daily responsibilities will include:

  • Attend resource fairs
  • Provide campus tours 
  • Represent the IDEAL Program and IPSE on local and state committees (TN IHE Alliance, DD Council)
  • Communicate with prospective students in the application process for the IDEAL Program
  • Network with local policymakers and legislators
  • Work with IDEAL Program Coordinator to expand outreach efforts to connect with school districts and share about personal experience of attending an IPSE program 
  • Maintain updated contact information of IDEAL Alumni
  • Assist IDEAL Program Coordinator with planning IDEAL Alumni events
  • Assist with managing IDEAL Alumni Facebook page
  • Assist with office management 
  • Other duties as assigned

Degree requirements: None, but Certificate of Career Exploration Studies or completion of an IPSE program is required

9 month position, 10 hours per week
