LEARN TO SKATE INSTRUCTOR - Davis Center at the Harlem MeerSports Facilities Management, LLCLOCATION: New York, NYDEPARTMENT: ICEREPORTS TO: GENERAL MANAGERSTATUS: PART-TIME (NON-EXEMPT)ABOUT THE COMPANY:Davis Center at the Harlem Meer is a brand new state-of-the-art recreational facility in New York City's iconic Central Park featuring a 1.25 acre outdoor area which houses an elliptical pool (280' x 120') that converts to a .75 acre public green during the spring & fall and features a full-size ice rink in the winter months. A 34,000 sq ft adjacent building houses locker rooms, public restrooms, and a large indoor gathering space to support all outdoor programming. Described by Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine as "one of the most important parks equity projects for the City in decades", the new Davis Center is the capstone project of the Central Park Conservancy's 40-year effort to restore Central Park and will serve as the hub for recreational and community programming in the area. We are growing rapidly and looking for high performers at every level to grow with us.POSITION SUMMARY:The Learn to Skate Instructor will lead the facility's youth (and some adult) ice skating offerings, including, but not limited to: Developmental Classes (ages 3-8), After-School/Home School programs, Clinics, Camps, Private/Semi-Private Trainings, Performance Sessions, and Birthday Parties. The Learn to Skate Instructor is responsible for coaching and developing skaters. This role involves designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals and groupsDevelop and implement training programs tailored to the skill levels and goals of athletesConduct on-ice and off-ice training sessions, focusing on technical skills, tactics, and physical conditioningTeach fundamental and advanced techniques of the Learn to Skate program Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing athlete performance and needs.Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivationDemonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequenceFriendly and courteous with athletes, parents, and team membersIdentifying athlete strengths and areas for developmentEnsuring a safe environment for all athletesImplementing the curriculum in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashionTHE IDEAL CANDIDATE:Coaching licenses (or active pursuit of) preferredFamiliarity with ISI and USFSA skating programsNeat in appearance and professional in manner and communicationInspiring confidence and self-beliefREQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:At least 5 years of appropriate coaching/teaching sport in youth programs for athletes of various aptitudesProven experience as a coach or in a related role, with a strong background in figure skatingAbility to demonstrate and participate in on-ice activitiesMust have excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skillsMust be a team playerMust have excellent communication skillsMust be willing to work a flexible schedule, predominately after-school and weekendsMust possess current CPR/FIRST AID certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified periodWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to move or lift lightweight equipmentWork is performed in an ice arena environment, which includes cold temperatures and varying noise levelsPosition requires standing and activity for extended periods of time (indoors or outdoors), squatting, stooping, jogging, or bending into awkward positions while performing job functions
