Job description

Rink Operator & Grounds Maintainer

Position Summary
The Loomis Chaffee School seeks an experienced Rink Operator & Ice Maintenance Technician to oversee rink operations, ice maintenance, athletic support, and seasonal grounds activities. The primary responsibility is operation and maintenance of Savage Johnson Rink. 

Rink Operations & Ice Maintenance (Primary Responsibility)

·        Oversee daily rink operations and management.

·        Maintain high-quality ice through resurfacing, edging, flooding, leveling, and dry shaving.

·        Operate and maintain Mammoth Ice Maintenance equipment safely.

·        Perform seasonal rink startup, ice installation, painting, and shutdown.

·        Coordinate facility usage for practices, games, rentals, and events.

·        Sharpen skates and maintain sharpening equipment.

·        Maintain locker rooms, lobby, boards, glass, and spectator areas.

·        Maintain hockey goals, nets, glass, boards, benches, scoreboards, timing systems, and dasher board equipment.

·        Inspect and repair equipment as needed.

·        Recommend capital improvements

Athletic Facilities & Event Support

·        Assist with athletic facility setup and breakdown practice/game and seasonal set ups and breakdowns.

·        Support equipment management and event operations.

·        Provide venue preparation and readiness support.

·        Foster a welcoming, professional, and customer-focused environment.

·        Build positive relationships with students, faculty, coaches, visiting teams, alumni, officials, and community users.

·        Address facility concerns in a timely and professional manner.

Grounds & Campus Support (Secondary Responsibility)

·        Perform mowing, trimming, weeding, raking, and general grounds work.

·        Assist with athletic field maintenance and landscaping.

·        Support snow and ice removal operations.

·        Assist other Physical Plant departments as needed.

Qualifications

·        Valid driver license.

·        Experience with rink operations and ice maintenance preferred.

·        Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

·        Dependability, flexibility, and professionalism.

·        Commitment to student-athlete experience and safety.

·        CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

·        Availability to work evening and weekends during the hockey season, as well as flexibility to support special events, tournaments, camps, and school programming throughout the year.

Physical Requirements

·        Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

·        Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work in cold environments for extended periods.

·        Ability to operate machinery and maintenance equipment safely.
