Position Overview

One of our clients in the commercial foodservice equipment industry is seeking a detail-oriented Design Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of commercial ice machines and refrigeration systems.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on product engineering experience, strong CAD capabilities, and practical knowledge of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, heat transfer, sheet metal design, and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop commercial cuber, flaker, nugget, pearl, and specialty ice-making equipment.

  • Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.

  • Support new product development from initial concept through validation and production launch.

  • Evaluate thermal performance, airflow, structural integrity, and refrigeration system efficiency.

  • Integrate compressors, condensers, evaporators, water circulation components, and dispensing systems.

  • Build, test, validate, and troubleshoot prototypes and production-ready equipment.

  • Partner with manufacturing teams to improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency, quality, and cost.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to reliability, energy efficiency, and product performance.

  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for production and field issues.

  • Coordinate with suppliers on component design, development, testing, and qualification.

  • Maintain technical reports, test procedures, engineering changes, and product documentation.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable UL, NSF, CE, DOE, and refrigeration safety requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

  • 3 to 7 years of product design, refrigeration, HVAC/R, or equipment engineering experience.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or comparable 3D CAD software.

  • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and airflow.

  • Experience with sheet metal, plastics, fabrication, and electromechanical assemblies.

  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, DFM, DFA, and engineering change processes.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing commercial refrigeration, foodservice, HVAC/R, or ice-making equipment.

  • Knowledge of R290 or other environmentally responsible refrigerants.

  • Familiarity with UL and NSF certification processes.

  • Hands-on prototype development and testing experience.

  • Experience with ERP or PDM systems.
