STATUS: PART-TIME (NON-EXEMPT)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Sports Coach will lead the facility's youth (and some adult) sports offerings, including, but not limited to: Leagues, Developmental Classes (ages 3-8), After-School/Home School programs, Clinics, Camps, Private/Semi-Private Trainings, Sports Performance Sessions, and Birthday Parties.

The Sports Coach at The Skating Edge Ice Arena is responsible for coaching and developing athletes in various ice sports, such as hockey, figure skating, or speed skating. This role involves designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals and group
  • Develop and implement training programs tailored to the skill levels and goals of athletes
  • Conduct on-ice and off-ice training sessions, focusing on technical skills, tactics, and physical conditioning
  • Teach fundamental and advanced techniques in the specific ice sport
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing athlete performance and need
  • Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation
  • Demonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence
  • Promote discipline, respect, and sportsmanship in all team activities
  • Friendly and courteous with athletes, parents, and team members
  • Identifying athlete strengths and areas for development
  • Ensuring a safe environment for all athletes
  • Stay updated with the latest coaching techniques, sports science, and industry best practices
  • All additional duties assigned by management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Coaching licenses (or active pursuit of) preferred
  • Proven experience as a coach or in a related role, with a strong background in the specific ice sport (hockey, figure skating, speed skating, etc.)
  • Ability to demonstrate and participate in on-ice activities
  • At least 2 years of appropriate coaching/teaching sport in youth programs for athletes of various aptitudes
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Must be a team player
  • Must have excellent leadership and motivational skills
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, predominately after-school and weekends
  • Must possess current CPR/FIRST AID certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified period
  • Neat in appearance and professional in manner
  • Strong knowledge of sports coach rules, techniques, and strategies
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities
  • Passion for sports and athlete development

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high
  • Must be able to move or lift lightweight equipment
  • Work is performed in an ice arena environment, which includes cold temperatures and varying noise levels
  • Position requires standing and activity for extended periods of time (indoors or outdoors), squatting, stooping, jogging, or bending into awkward positions while performing job functions
