Our primary focus is around data analytics, testing automation and end-to-end delivery of Data Management programs for large Financial Services and Healthcare clients.

Job Description

The Netezza Database Admin position will focus is on the proficient delivery of Database Administration services while leading the Database Administration team's use of tools, techniques and processes.

Primary duties in the Netezza database infrastructure - may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Works closely with our customers - Development, QA testers, Architects, Operations, Business Analysts and other staff to implement Database Administration changes and service requests.
  • Works with data modeler and coordinates with our customers to implement physical model on an ongoing basis.
  • Participates within the DBA team to troubleshoot any issues on the Netezza appliance, including any errors or slow running queries.
  • Recommend and implement a detailed security design based on minimum necessary privileges required.
  • Builds and supports all required database environments including development, test and production.
  • Provides guidance to Development in best architectural practices in maximizing the database performance.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements database changes and data migration.
  • Conducts capacity planning on a regular basis to ensure database infrastructure is available and there is proactive planning for future work
  • Work with appliance vendor to troubleshoot issues, perform upgrades, create and follow-up on support tickets as needed.
  • Actively monitors the user queries and maintenance occurring on the Netezza appliances, automating the monitoring where possible.
  • Conducts admin tasks including task estimation, creating status reports and leading team meetings.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Recent 5+ years hands on experience as a Netezza DBA
  • Candidate must have good experience in Netezza experience.
  • Strong Netezza Performance tuning DBA
  • Knowledge on Oracle/Exadata
  • Expert technical design and Netezza database administration knowledge required.
  • Experience with performance troubleshooting with slow running queries in Netezza.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to support production DBA activities on the Netezza platform.
  • Ability to "own" issues from inception to resolution
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with superior communication skills; verbal, interpersonal and written.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical staff and senior managers.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to prioritize tasks to meet the business needs is required.
  • Preferred but not required: Netezza (aka IBM PureData for Analytics) specialist certification
