What is an IAM system administrator?

IAM System Administrators are IT professionals responsible for managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems within an organization. They ensure that only authorized users have access to specific resources by overseeing user accounts, permissions, authentication, and security policies. Their work is crucial in protecting sensitive data and maintaining compliance with security regulations. IAM System Administrators may also troubleshoot access issues, implement security best practices, and monitor system activity for unusual behavior.

What are some common challenges IAM system administrators face when managing access controls in large organizations?

IAM System Administrators in large organizations often encounter challenges such as balancing strict security requirements with user convenience, managing access for a diverse workforce, and ensuring timely provisioning and deprovisioning of user accounts. Coordinating with multiple departments to ensure compliance with security policies and handling requests for privileged access can also be demanding. Staying up to date with evolving regulations and integrating new technologies while maintaining existing systems is crucial for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an IAM system administrator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an IAM System Administrator, you need a solid understanding of identity and access management principles, directory services, and cybersecurity best practices, often backed by a relevant degree or certifications like CompTIA Security+ or Certified Identity and Access Manager (CIAM). Familiarity with IAM platforms such as Microsoft Azure AD, Okta, or SailPoint, as well as scripting languages like PowerShell, is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills help administrators manage complex access controls and collaborate with stakeholders. Authentic8 is seeking a seasoned System Administrator II to lead endpoint and SaaS platform support across our hybrid workforce. This is a hands-on technical role with direct responsibility for provisioning, securing, and maintaining the systems our teams rely on. You'll drive improvements across Jamf, Intune, Azure, and our broader SaaS ecosystem. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running, managing existing infrastructure from day one in a fast-paced, security-first environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provision, configure, and maintain macOS, Windows, and mobile endpoints

  • Administer cloud platforms: Azure, GCP, Google Workspace, Okta

  • Build, maintain, and secure on-premises and virtual server environments (Windows Server 2019/2022, Linux) using VMware vCenter

  • Manage and improve MDM platforms (Jamf Pro and Microsoft Intune)

  • Package and deploy software to Apple and Microsoft devices

  • Administer Active Directory - Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and domain controller administration

  • Provide end-user support for laptops, mobile devices, SaaS tools, and authentication systems

  • Manage Azure infrastructure including virtual machines, virtual networks, storage, backup policies, and IAM/RBAC

  • Troubleshoot escalated corporate Wi-Fi, LAN, VPN and hardware services

  • Oversee infrastructure backups

  • Document system configurations, procedures, and IT workflows

Requirements
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision - recognizing workflow inefficiencies and independently planning and implementing solutions to get results

  • 5+ years as a IT systems administration (macOS, Windows, and mobile)

  • Proficient in macOS, Windows 11, Windows Server 2019/2022, Linux, iOS, and Android

  • 5+ years experience with MDM (Jamf Pro and/or Intune), SaaS tools, and cloud identity systems (Okta, Azure AD/Entra ID)

  • PowerShell, Bash, or automation scripting experience

  • Proven hands-on experience building and configuring Windows Server environments - bare metal or VM provisioning in VMware

  • Active Directory administration: domain controller operations, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP management

  • Experience managing Azure VMs, networking, storage, and IAM/RBAC

  • Experience supporting corporate networks: firewalls, DNS, VPN, Wi-Fi

  • Skilled in enterprise software deployment and packaging

  • Experience with VMware vCenter and familiarity with Parallels Desktop

  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve IT operations, troubleshooting, documentation, and workflow automation

  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

  • Relevant hands-on experience in IT support, systems administration, or a related technical field (degree or equivalent experience)

  • Must be able to work from our Redwood City office (2-3 days per week)

  • Must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Information Security, Computer Science, or equivalent hands-on experience

  • Microsoft AZ-104 Azure Administrator Associate certification

  • Jamf Certified Tech/Admin or Okta Certified Professional/Administrator

  • Familiarity with SAML, SSO, or enterprise security frameworks

  • Exposure to compliance-focused or regulated environments

Salary Range
$115,000 - $130,000  Plus Bonus
Individual pay will be determined by job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
