Job description

Position: Facilities Specialist I

Location: 9369 Highway 48 West, Wedowee, AL 36278
Travel: Daily travel to Public Recreation Sites required
Duration: 3 Years

Position Overview

The Facilities Specialist I supports the maintenance, safety, and operational oversight of APC’s Public Recreation Facilities located across 11 reservoirs (74 total sites).

Under the guidance of the Shoreline Recreation Team Leader, this role is responsible for assisting with the cost-effective operation, development, and regular maintenance of recreation facilities in compliance with APC’s FERC Hydro License requirements, company policies, and regulatory guidelines.

This position requires extensive travel, independent fieldwork, and hands-on maintenance responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

Site Maintenance & Operations

  • Perform day-to-day maintenance and repairs of:
    • Buildings
    • Grounds
    • Piers
    • Boat ramps
    • Roads
    • Equipment
  • Assist with coordinating maintenance and repair activities with external service providers
  • Support site development projects involving earthwork, carpentry, masonry, and general construction
  • Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently

Vendor & Contractor Coordination

  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors
  • Assist with obtaining quotes and negotiating contracts
  • Ensure contracted services are delivered according to agreements

Safety & Compliance

  • Assist with implementing and enforcing safety and security protocols
  • Conduct safety inspections and assessments
  • Ensure facilities comply with FERC Hydro License requirements and company standards
  • Support ADA compliance initiatives

Environmental Stewardship

  • Promote sustainable practices such as waste reduction and energy conservation
  • Support shoreline and property upkeep across reservoir systems

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain maintenance logs and inspection checklists
  • Document repairs, vendor work, and compliance activities
  • Complete scheduled maintenance procedures and reporting requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in land and building management and maintenance
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, and general construction practices
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Comfortable working in public settings and interacting with the public
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to travel extensively across APC reservoir systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with earthwork, carpentry, masonry, and concrete
  • Experience operating heavy equipment
  • Experience with ADA compliance projects
  • Knowledge of APC’s reservoir system and recreation sites
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 1 year
