Job description

Clerk A

The Office of Graduate Programs is seeking a Clerk A position to provide assistance at the front desk of the department. The Office of Graduate Programs requires someone who is reliable, personable, and eager to learn.

Responsibilities*
  • Greet and direct walk-in visitors and answer phones
  • Clerical duties including:
    • assembling of recruitment materials
    • processing mail, faxes and forms
    • using a scanner to image documents and link to student records
    • preparing mailings
    • copying
    • filing
    • using a computer to enter data
  • Occasionally assist with recruitment events
  • Maintain a neat and orderly reception area
  • Other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*

Position is open to UM-Flint students only.

The essential skills required for this position include:

  • Demonstrated careful attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with computers and basic office equipment
  • Ability to respect and maintain student confidentiality and present a businesslike appearance and demeanor
Desired Qualifications*
  • Availability at least two days per week; hours are flexible, but availability during the 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM time period is strongly preferred.
  • Candidate should have motivation and initiative to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Prior experience in an office setting is a plus.
  • UM-Flint Work-study eligible student is preferred.
Modes of Work

Onsite

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
