MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced HVAC Controls Project Manager located in Urbandale, IA. Our client is a Building Automation industry Leader looking for high-quality talent to make a difference. Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Controls Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and successful completion of commercial HVAC controls and Building Automation System (BAS) projects. This position is responsible for managing projects from design through commissioning while ensuring work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with customer expectations and applicable codes.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC controls, project management, commissioning, field coordination, and customer relationship management.

Responsibilities

Lead HVAC controls and building automation projects from initiation through project closeout.

Plan project schedules, coordinate resources, and ensure timely execution of project milestones.

Oversee hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, commissioning, testing, and startup activities.

Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, designers, installers, vendors, and customers throughout the project lifecycle.

Manage procurement of project materials, equipment, and subcontracted services.

Review project scope, evaluate changes, and prepare or support change order documentation.

Monitor project budgets, labor, material costs, billing, collections, and overall financial performance.

Verify system functionality through device testing, controller programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Maintain accurate project documentation, including as-built drawings, commissioning reports, and closeout packages.

Conduct customer training and provide operational documentation upon project completion.

Participate in project meetings and provide regular updates on project schedules, risks, costs, and progress.

Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, industry standards, and local, state, and federal codes.

Support warranty activities and maintain strong customer relationships throughout project execution.

Mentor and provide technical guidance to field technicians, installers, and subcontractors.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree in Engineering, HVAC Technology, Electronics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.

Minimum of:

2+ years of HVAC controls, Building Automation Systems (BAS), or commissioning experience, or

4–6+ years of progressively responsible industry experience in HVAC controls or related systems.

Experience managing commercial HVAC controls or BAS installation projects.

Knowledge of HVAC systems, controls integration, system startup, and commissioning.

Experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and field installation teams.

Understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and project accounting principles.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard project management software.

Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

Valid driver's license with reliable personal transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with commercial Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Knowledge of HVAC controls programming and controls design.

Familiarity with electrical and mechanical construction practices.

Relevant HVAC controls, automation, or project management certifications.

Experience managing change orders and project financial reporting.

Travel Requirements

Local travel is required between customer sites throughout the state of Iowa.

Most travel consists of same-day trips within approximately 60 miles of the Des Moines metropolitan area.

Overnight travel is minimal (approximately 2%) and generally limited to project locations more than two hours from Des Moines.

Personal vehicle required for business travel.

Approved mileage reimbursement is provided.

Work Environment

Fully onsite position.

Safety-focused work environment supporting commercial HVAC controls and building automation projects.

Opportunity to lead projects from planning and installation through commissioning and final customer handoff.

Additional Details:

Duration: 04 Months with possibility of extension

Location:  Urbandale, IA 50322

Shift hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
