HVAC MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Fork Union Military Academy, an all-boys boarding school located in the beautiful central Virginia region near Charlottesville, Richmond, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking an experienced HVAC Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities and Maintenance team.
Position Description
The HVAC Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the Academy's heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems while assisting with general maintenance needs throughout campus. This position performs preventive maintenance, diagnoses system issues, completes necessary repairs, and helps ensure Academy facilities remain safe, comfortable, and in proper working condition.
The HVAC Maintenance Technician works closely with the Maintenance team and may assist contractors and vendors as needed. The position also supports general building and grounds maintenance, equipment installation, seasonal projects, and other facility needs throughout the Academy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and related equipment.
  • Perform preventive HVAC maintenance, including filters, belts, motors, thermostats, controls, and other system components.
  • Diagnose HVAC problems and complete appropriate repairs or corrective action.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and complete assigned work orders.
  • Install or assist with the installation of HVAC equipment, appliances, fixtures, and other facility equipment.
  • Assist with general campus maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical repairs.
  • Assist with seasonal projects, storm preparation and clean-up, and other campus maintenance needs.
  • Work cooperatively with the Maintenance team, contractors, vendors, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (Types I, II, and III) required.
  • Knowledge and experience in HVAC troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
  • General building maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to identify mechanical problems and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must successfully complete required background checks and participate in the Academy's drug-testing program.
Education & Experience
HVAC training and previous professional HVAC maintenance or service experience are preferred. Experience in commercial, institutional, school, or campus facilities maintenance is a plus.

This position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods; climb stairs and ladders; bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull; and lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials. Work may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
