About this role:

A Residential New Construction HVAC Mechanic is responsible for installing and setting up heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in newly built residential properties. This role involves interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, ensuring systems are installed according to specifications and building codes, and performing initial system tests to confirm proper functionality. The HVAC Mechanic collaborates closely with construction teams, adheres to safety standards, and addresses any installation issues or adjustments needed to ensure efficient and reliable system performance.


In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Install and inspect a range of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and systems in residential settings.
  • Descale tubing, braze copper, cut and thread pipe, install PVC drain lines, and make pipe and low voltage connections.
  • Install and seal metal and flexible ductwork, cut in collars, install dampers, zone boards, and zone dampers, ensure installed duct systems allow for proper airflow and future serviceability.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Adhere to schedules and deadlines to ensure timely project completion.
  • Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and unusual occurrences, including time and materials used on work orders.
  • Test pipe and tubing joints for leaks using pressure gauges or soap-and-water solutions.
  • Teach and instruct helpers on approved HVAC system installation techniques.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience in HVAC system installation, with a strong understanding of HVAC system components and installation processes.
  • Valid driver's license and a minimum of three years of driving experience and a clean record
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting plans, diagrams, and specifications, ensuring accurate installation and adherence to project requirements.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions effectively, with a capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Comfortable with physical demands including climbing, working at heights, and standing for extended periods.
  • Skilled in estimating work requirements and evaluating progress based on completed tasks.
  • Physically capable of lifting, bending, pushing, and moving objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Effective communication skills for exchanging information and notifying field supervisors and office personnel of progress and any issues.
  • Demonstrates leadership and teamwork, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with safety standards, company policies, and builder requirements.
  • Must pass a background check and a drug screen

The physical requirements of this job include:

  • Lifting 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
  • Climbing ladders, accessing attics, navigating tight spaces, driving, entering crawlspaces, pushing, carrying, pulling, using hand tools, and performing fine detail work.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Working in various environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, attics, crawlspaces.
  • Ability to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.
  • Use hands to handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch.
  • The work requires regular exposure to extreme temperatures both indoors and outdoors, such as heat or cold, and adverse weather conditions such as wind, rain, ice or snow.
