Position Title: HVAC Foreman
Reports To: HVAC Supervisor

Position Summary

The HVAC Foreman serves as the on-site leader for commercial HVAC installation projects, responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing HVAC work to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents and quality standards. The HVAC Foreman plays a key role in mentoring team members, enforcing safety expectations, and delivering high-quality on-time mechanical systems for Ames Mechanical.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Assist the HVAC team with the installation of HVAC systems, including ductwork, furnaces, air handlers, condensing units, roof top units, piping, and related components.
  • Consistently embody and promote the values, mission, and safety culture of Ames Construction and Ames Mechanical.
  • Supervise and direct HVAC crews to ensure efficient, productive, and safe jobsite operations.
  • Plan daily work activities, assign tasks, and coordinate manpower needs with the HVAC Supervisor to meet project schedules and milestones.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for HVAC-related work, coordinating with general contractors, other trades, and internal leadership as needed.
  • Review, interpret, and execute work in accordance with blueprints, specifications, submittals, and project documentation.
  • Oversee the installation of HVAC systems including, but not limited to: ductwork and air distribution systems, furnaces, air handlers, and rooftop units
  • Perform hands-on installation work as needed while leading by example.
  • Ensure proper jobsite setup, material staging, equipment usage, and housekeeping.
  • Coordinate material needs, track deliveries, and ensure timely submission of packing slips, receipts, and documentation.
  • Enforce all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct routine jobsite inspections to verify compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and project specifications.
  • Train, mentor, and develop HVAC Helpers and Technicians, supporting skill advancement and professional growth.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment among crew members.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements, efficiency gains, and cost control on projects.
  • Collaborate with other foremen, supervisors, and project managers to resolve issues and implement best practices.
  • Act as a liaison between the job site and management to ensure alignment on project expectations and outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in HVAC & Refrigeration Technology preferred.
  • 510 years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction.
  • Journeyman-level HVAC experience required; additional certifications preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, installation methods, and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and mechanical drawings.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience supervising and mentoring crews.
  • OSHA 10-hour training preferred (OSHA 30-hour a plus).
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including ladders, lifts, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record (subject to MVR background check)
