How much do hvac engineer jobs pay per hour?
What is the difference between Hvac Engineer vs Mechanical Engineer?
| Aspect | Hvac Engineer | Mechanical Engineer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Bachelor's in Mechanical or HVAC Engineering, certifications like EPA or LEED | Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Professional Engineer (PE) license often preferred |
| Work Environment | Designing, installing, and maintaining HVAC systems in commercial, residential, or industrial settings | Designing and analyzing mechanical systems, including HVAC, engines, and manufacturing equipment |
| Industry Usage | Primarily in HVAC, building services, and environmental control sectors | Broader engineering fields including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, and HVAC |
Hvac Engineers focus specifically on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, working closely with building design and environmental control. Mechanical Engineers have a broader scope, often working on various mechanical systems beyond HVAC. While both roles require similar credentials, Hvac Engineers specialize in climate control systems, making them more targeted for HVAC projects.

As an HVAC engineer, your job is to design heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and cooling (HVAC) systems, as well as refrigeration systems. Your primary responsibilities center around the design of these systems, but depending on your employer, you may also have installation, maintenance, and repair duties. You must consult with clients, whether residential or commercial, to discover their needs, and then provide them with an estimate. From there, you either create a design for a new HVAC system or identify solutions for their existing system. You may collaborate with other engineers as well as installers, repair technicians, and managers to make sure your designs are within the scope of the project budget and meet clients’ needs.
