Job description

Hi. We're Hummingbird.
We're elevating patient access so patients can get healthcare how, when, and where they need it. We partner with healthcare systems to transform how patients access care, enabling their providers to focus on what matters most - caring for patients. By managing patient access as a technology-enabled service, we help health systems stabilize costs and improve patient experience while creating good jobs that attract and retain talent in the industry. Our team of experts is obsessed with the connection between the people, processes, and technology that make healthcare organizations hum. Join us and help build the healthcare experience we want for our communities, our families, and ourselves.
Summary
Responsibilities
Be the calm problem-solver behind the scenes-support Epic stability and revenue cycle workflows that patients and staff rely on.
We're hiring two Epic Professional Billing (PB) Analysts to our Service Delivery team! This is hands-on, operational work: you'll spend your time resolving tickets, handling break-fix issues, and delivering optimization projects that keep Epic Professional Billing running smoothly for the client's teams and for the patients they serve.
In the Professional Billing space, that means working within Resolute Professional Billing: charge entry and edit management, claim submission and scrubbing workflows, remittance posting, denial management queues, and the configuration that keeps professional billing moving without unnecessary friction.
A typical day includes a steady flow of requests and problem-solving: you'll triage and troubleshoot incoming tickets, dig into workflows and build to find root cause, coordinate with client stakeholders to confirm needs and priorities, and document changes so fixes are traceable and repeatable. Depending on level, you'll lead more complex work-anticipating downstream impacts, guiding decisions, and mentoring others.
What You'll Do
  • Act as an extension of a client's Epic team, supporting day-to-day stability and continuous improvement in Epic Professional Billing.
  • Triage and resolve incoming tickets: clarify the issue, reproduce it when needed, determine urgency/impact, and move it through to resolution.
  • Handle break-fix work by troubleshooting workflows/build, identifying root cause, and implementing safe, well-tested fixes.
  • Translate requests into clear, testable requirements-confirming what success looks like before you build.
  • Configure/update Epic build within your specialty area, following standards and keeping documentation clean and traceable.
  • Plan and execute appropriate testing (unit/integrated/regression as needed), validate outcomes, and ensure fixes don't create downstream issues.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with client stakeholders and internal teammates: status, timelines, risks, tradeoffs, and next steps.
  • Escalate when risk, complexity, or impact crosses thresholds-and bring recommended options, not just problems.
  • For Senior roles: Lead more ambiguous troubleshooting, anticipate dependencies, drive prioritization, and mentor others to strengthen ticket quality, root-cause analysis, and delivery practices.
  • For Senior roles: Deliver small optimization projects that improve reliability, reduce friction, and help the client's teams work more effectively.

The Details
  • Employment Eligibility: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Compensation (Analyst): Expected range is $79,200 to $103,000. New hires typically start between $79,200 and $95,000, depending on experience and internal equity.
  • Compensation (Senior Analyst): Expected range is $100,000 to $130,000. New hires typically start between $100,000 and $120,000, depending on experience and internal equity.
  • Location: This position is remote. You must work from a location within the United States with consistent internet service.
  • Work Type: Full-time
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PST business hours, with some flexibility.
  • Travel: 2-3 times/year for company events or client visits.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage; paid time off; 401(k); parental leave; career development support; and more.

Required & Desired Skills
What You'll Bring
Requirements
  • Current Epic certification in Professional Billing
  • Broad working knowledge of Epic Professional Billing and an understanding of how modules and workflows connect, including exposure to claims, remittance, and payer plan build (such as RTE) is a plus.
  • Analyst Level: 2+ years of experience in an analyst role focused on problem-solving, requirements gathering, testing, and system implementation.
  • Senior Analyst Level: 4-5+ years of experience independently delivering analyst work, including complex or moderately ambiguous system changes and thoughtful risk/impact management.

Core skills for success
  • Strong problem-solving skills: you can frame ambiguous issues into clear problem statements and practical paths forward.
  • Comfort working across systems, data, and stakeholder inputs to find what's true and what needs to change.
  • Strong written and verbal communication- you speak up, you can explain your reasoning, and adapt your message to your audience.
  • A quality-first mindset: you care about testing, documentation, and building things that hold up in the real world.
  • Ownership and reliability: you follow through, flag risk early, and ask for help when you need it.

Nice to Have
  • Experience leading cross-functional workstreams, mentoring others, or improving team standards/methods (especially for Senior roles).
  • Experience in regulated or highly controlled environments where consistency and traceability matter.
  • Experience with structured delivery practices (requirements traceability, change control, test planning, release readiness).

Expectations for Focus & Presence
To support patients and each other, this role requires your full attention during scheduled work hours. Our Outside Employment Policy doesn't allow overlapping work or "job stacking," so any outside work must happen fully outside your Hummingbird schedule.
Why You'll Love Working Here
We're on a mission to make healthcare more human, and that includes how we support our people. You'll find clarity in expectations, connection in how we work together, and real opportunity to grow your skills over time. We invest in development because we want your work here to lead somewhere meaningful.
Please Note: The seniority level of this position may be adjusted during the recruitment process based on candidate skills and experience.
The Hummingbird Approach
We value a team that brings diverse perspectives and experiences to the work we do. While there are many ways to do this, people who are successful at Hummingbird:
  • Lead with Respect by valuing kindness and working to actively foster an environment of inclusion and respect.
  • Embrace Growth and seek out learning and growth for themselves and support those around them in their growth journey. They bring curiosity and an openness to innovation to all their interactions.
  • Bring a Win Together mentality by approaching conflict directly, listening carefully, and seeking to understand. They problem-solve with the goal of finding successes, not trade-offs, for all involved.
