The Manager - Emergency Medical Services understands and supports the philosophy and policies and procedures of Aspirus Wausau Hospital and Service Area. Works collaboratively to produce, nurture, and sustain a professional practice and healthy work environment that affords and enhances patient care effectiveness and efficiency through leadership to multidisciplinary teams, effective physician relationships, and a shared vision and dedication to the future of Aspirus Wausau Hospital and the health region. They are a professional who, under the direction of the Director - Emergency Medical Services, assumes daily responsibility for the coordination, leadership and the development of his/her department, personnel, and operations. They assist the Director to assume the timely and consistent accomplishment of his/her service, quality, fiscal, human resources, and community accountabilities in service to patients, providers, and the community. Assumes leadership responsibility in the Director's absence.
Manages the day-to-day operations of MedEvac transportation services. This individual is responsible for knowing and supporting the philosophy and policies and procedures of Aspirus Wausau Hospital and MedEvac services. The Manager collaborates with all team members to ensure safe, effective, and efficient passage throughout the transportation region. The Manager provides daily function and leadership for the MedEvac transportation program. Is responsible for the recruitment and retention, performance review, professional development, budget formulation, and quality outcomes, and is responsible for ensuring safe, comprehensive care for critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages. Care is provided in the pre-hospital setting and during inter-facility transports by understanding and applying the specialized principles and techniques of transport paramedic practice, emergency procedures and diagnostics. Oversee orientation and training of pre-hospital staff, students, and the public regarding EMS care.
Work status: Full Time or 1.0 FTE, 80 hours every pay period
Shift: Primarily Monday - Friday, with varied shifts and occasional weekends as needed
Location: Oversees six 911 bases: Rhinelander, Woodruff, Eagle River, Tomahawk, Nokomis, Three Lakes
  • Works closely with Oneida County, Vials County, and Lincoln County

Experience/Qualifications
  • Knowledge of emergency patient care standards and practices normally acquired through completion of an accredited Paramedic program or Registered Nurse program.
  • Bachelor's Degree required or completed within a mutually agreed upon period.
  • Preferred in an associated field, e.g., Health Care Administration with an emphasis in Emergency Management, or bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Minimum of five years' experience current field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service, flight or transport experience.
  • Three years' management experience is preferred.
  • Possesses an active Wisconsin/Michigan Paramedic certification and/or Wisconsin/Michigan RN nursing license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Possesses a valid Driver's License in the state of residency required.
  • Membership in appropriate professional organizations is beneficial.
  • Possesses effective human relations skills required for interfacing with all levels of personnel and external customers.
  • Possesses basic computer skills for email, Excel, Word, etc.

Aspirus MedEvac medical transportation service provides 24-hour emergency air and ground medical transport for critically ill and injured individuals of North Central Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. We are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care and safety to our patients. Aspirus MedEvac operates critical care ground transfer ambulances from Wisconsin ground bases in Weston, Mosinee, Wisconsin Rapids, Medford, Plover, Portage, Rhinelander, Eagle River, Woodruff and Upper Michigan bases in Ontonagon, Iron River and Crystal Falls. In addition to the Critical care Ground Transports, Aspirus MedEvac also provides 911 coverage for Iron County MI, Lincoln County WI, Oneida County WI, Taylor County WI, Vilas County WI, and Watersmeet MI. The ground units are staffed with Critical Care Paramedics, Registered Nurses and EMTs. MedEvac air is staffed with a pilot, a Flight Nurse and a Flight Paramedic and is capable of transporting one patient.
