Job description
The Human Rights and Inclusion Specialist acts as a trusted advisor providing expert guidance to the Human Rights and Inclusion team and to the organization . Under the direction of the Manager, Human Rights, the Human Rights and Inclusion Specialist will provide operational support for the effective implementation and delivery of Human Rights and Inclusion initiatives, and equitable and inclusive processes and activities. Collaborating with EDI Health Equity and Human Rights and Inclusion colleagues, the Specialist will champion the development and implementation of strategic equity, diversity and inclusion and Human Rights policies, initiatives, inclusive curriculum, programs and resources that identify and eradicate systemic barriers, which results in a more equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace. This position will serve as a partner and advisor for workplace Human Rights matters, as well as, create and implement initiatives that align with HHS' Vision, Mission & Values to build a learning workplace that is respectful, equitable, diverse and inclusive.
1. Undergraduate degree in Public Policy with an emphasis on human rights, gender studies, equity, or in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Public Health or Health Care Leadership.
2. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse living experiences and socioeconomic, and gender backgrounds
3. Demonstrated emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people with equity-deserving identities, typically developed through experience working with marginalized communities (5-7 years).
4. Ability to influence an outcome across all levels through a consultative methodology; ability to successfully navigate challenging conversations among diverse groups and build consensus, demonstrating skill and/or training in using the following:
Coaching - Conflict coaching and professional coaching - education and training)
Conflict system design - Conflict and Communication theory, code of conduct, commitments to colleagues.
Advanced negotiation and mediation training.
5. Ability to work independently and effectively as leader or member in teams, on task-forces, and committees with ability to be creative and proactive in offering new approaches to problem solve
6. Curriculum Design knowledge and/or experience with adult learning certification, knowledge and/or experience (5 years).
7. Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Employment Standards Act, Employment Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant human rights legislation and policies, as required. (Human Rights Federal and Provincial knowledge) (7-10 years).
8. Highly skilled in communication and knowledge translation practices; strong analytical writing skills (including policy analysis and writing briefs) and oral communication skills.9. Broad understanding of hospital operations and/or public sector or health care system to inform discussions and creative solutions to building an inclusive community, including experience and understanding of health care systems and healthcare delivery and how these systems impact health outcomes
10. Diversity training - courses and conference education - Indigenous Cultural Competency certificate
11. Knowledge of community programs and supports
12. Experience, knowledge and understanding of concepts related to co-design, patient engagement, and community engagement principles.
13. Facilitation skills - small and large group work - with effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with a keen ability to engage with various key interested parties and members of the community, resulting in mutual learning, collaborative partnerships and beneficial result
14. Understanding of effectiveness methodologies, change management, project management (5 years) and process improvement skills to support organizational change , with demonstrated ability in managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
15. Strong ability to conduct evaluation, program design, develop plans/procedures/write reports
16. Experience with conference development, special events planning
17. Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to act as an informal leader, influencing change while aligning with organization values, setting priorities, and undertaking multiple tasks with tight deadlines
18. Proficiency in M365, specifically Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
19. Experienced public speaker with experience developing and conducting presentation and training sessions
