The Underwriting Operations Specialist plays an essential role in supporting the underwriting team and ensuring smooth, accurate processing throughout the entire policy lifecycle. This position is well suited for someone looking to start or advance a career in Property & Casualty insurance and who enjoys organized, detail driven work. The role is responsible for policy processing, data entry, documentation management, and providing timely, high quality operational support to help the underwriting team deliver excellent service.
Some prior insurance experience or related coursework is preferred, but we are fully prepared to train a highly organized, motivated candidate with strong attention to detail and a desire to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting Support
  • Assist underwriters with new business submissions, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
  • Review submission documents for completeness and request missing information from brokers as needed.
  • Prepare policy documentation and coordinate issuance within established service standards.
  • Enter and maintain accurate data in policy administration systems.

Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Manage underwriting inbox and workflow queues.
  • Track outstanding items and follow up with brokers and internal teams.
  • Organize electronic files and maintain document integrity.
  • Support surplus lines filings and compliance documentation as directed.

Quality & Process Support
  • Perform basic quality control checks on policies and endorsements.
  • Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and company procedures.
  • Assist with internal reporting and data validation tasks.
  • Participate in training sessions and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred
  • Prior experience in insurance, finance, banking, or other regulated industries.
  • Basic understanding of Property & Casualty insurance concepts.
  • Experience in administrative or operations support roles.
  • Insurance coursework, designation progress (e.g., AINS), or interest in pursuing insurance certifications.
