The Human Resources Manager at Hanson is responsible for leading and executing HR strategies that support business objectives, workforce planning, and employee engagement across the organization. This role partners closely with leadership to drive talent initiatives, ensure compliance, and foster a high-performance, value-driven culture. This is an in-office position. Candidates must be willing to work in our Springfield, downtown Chicago or Lisle, IL offices.
Key Responsibilities
HR Business Partnership
  • Serve as a strategic partner to business leaders, aligning HR initiatives with operational goals
  • Support leaders through change management, restructuring, and growth initiatives

Employee Relations
  • Act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on workplace issues
  • Investigate and resolve employee relations concerns in a timely and fair manner
  • Promote a culture of accountability, inclusion, and engagement

Performance Management & Development
  • Drive performance management processes by coaching managers on employee feedback, and performance improvement
  • Identify training needs and support learning initiatives

Compensation & Benefits
  • Partner with HR leadership on compensation planning and market alignment
  • Support annual merit, bonus, and review cycles
  • Manage escalated benefit-related questions and partner with insurance plan brokers to develop and maintain benefit plans.

Compliance & HR Operations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data (Workday)
  • Support audits, reporting, and policy development

Culture & Engagement
  • Support employee engagement initiatives and company-wide programs
  • Reinforce Hanson's core values and culture across all business units
  • Monitor engagement trends and recommend actionable improvements

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Experience supporting multi-site or field-based workforce environments
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with leadership

Preferred
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
  • Experience in engineering, construction, or professional services industry
  • Experience with Workday or similar HRIS platforms

The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $130,000 per year and is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
