How much do human computer interaction jobs pay per year?
What is a human computer interaction?
A Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) job focuses on designing and improving the interaction between people and technology. Professionals in this field work on creating user-friendly interfaces, enhancing usability, and researching how humans engage with digital systems. Their roles often include UX design, usability research, software development, and accessibility improvements. HCI jobs are common in industries like tech, healthcare, gaming, and education, where optimizing user experience is critical.
What does a human computer interaction professional do?
Human Computer Interaction professionals commonly engage in user research, design user flows and wireframes, conduct usability testing, and analyze user data to refine digital interfaces. They often collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, and graphic designers to ensure the end product is both functional and user-friendly. Regular activities can include organizing focus groups, creating interactive prototypes, and presenting research findings to stakeholders. This role is highly iterative, requiring adaptability and frequent communication with diverse teams throughout the design and development process.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in human computer interaction?
To thrive in Human Computer Interaction, you need a strong background in usability principles, user research, and experience design, often supported by a degree in HCI, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with prototyping tools (like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD), user testing platforms, and understanding of accessibility standards are crucial. Strong analytical thinking, creativity, and excellent communication skills help professionals excel in this collaborative, user-centered environment. These competencies enable the creation of intuitive, effective interactive systems that meet both user needs and organizational goals.

Job description
Are you a senior product designer who thrives on making dense technical and regulatory systems legible, and who is ready to lead design across a portfolio of enterprise platforms? Deloitte Tax has spent decades refining a client-service delivery model that our professionals rely on today. This role gives you the opportunity to bring that same rigor to the technology platforms that support tax service delivery, defining the workflows and usability standards our teams depend on every day. If that sounds like the next step in your career, come join the world's leading professional services firm.
Work you'll do
As a Manager, UX Product Design, you will lead design across a portfolio of internal enterprise platforms that support Deloitte Tax's technology delivery, spanning compliance and governance tools, delivery optimization applications, used by clients and tax professionals to deliver an unparalleled Global Mobility experience. You will translate complex technical and regulatory requirements into decision-ready design, ensuring dense information stays legible at every level of the application experience. You will lead role-specific product designs for the persona groups who depend on these platforms. As a design lead within the team, you will establish design system foundations, research practices, and review cadences that the broader design practice will builds on as it grows, partnering directly with product and engineering leadership to shape strategy and roadmap.
- Cross-Functional Craft Leadership: Bring deep interaction-design expertise to product and engineering leadership, operating effectively both in collaborative working sessions and independently as a design lead.
- Design Practice Build-Out: Establish research templates, review mechanisms, and a working design system that give the platform team a durable design foundation as it grows. You will represent design in strategy and roadmap discussions.
- Self-Service & Escalation Design: Design self-service workflows for high-stakes operations, with safeguards and escalation paths that route edge cases to the right person while preserving operational trust.
- Multi-Role Workflow Design: Design role-specific workflows for the distinct user groups who depend on Deloitte's platform, such as employees, employers, and Deloitte tax professionals.
- Progressive Disclosure & Information Architecture: Design layered views and application experiences so complex operational and compliance data stays legible at every level of depth.
- Complex Systems Translation: Translate dense technical, regulatory, and compliance requirements into decision-ready designs.
A successful candidate would possess these skills:
- Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills
- Clear, concise communication with technical and non-technical audiences
- Adaptability and a strong bias for learning and continuous improvement
The team
Deloitte's Global Employer Services Technology Center team is building the platforms that power Deloitte's business services, service lines, and internal operations teams rely on every day. The team's work is a foundational driver of how Deloitte serves many of the world's largest and most respected companies.
Qualifications
Required:
- Ability to perform job responsibilities within a hybrid work model that requires US Tax professionals to co-locate in person 2 - 3 days per week
- Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, human-centered computing, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience designing enterprise B2B SaaS, cloud infrastructure, or data-intensive operational platforms, with end-to-end ownership from concept through launch, including experience in regulated or high-stakes environments where accuracy and auditability are critical.
- Experience designing role-specific workflows for multiple user groups within a single platform and translating complex technical or regulatory information into decision-ready experiences for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Figma and rapid prototyping across fidelities.
- Track record of taking a zero-to-one product from an early concept to a shipped, adopted platform as the design owner, including defining scope alongside product and engineering leadership.
- A strong portfolio or samples of work demonstrating experience-driven design and UX skills is required.
- Limited immigration sponsorship may be available.
- Ability to travel up to 10%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
- One of the following active accreditations obtained:
- Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA
- If not CPA eligible:
- Licensed attorney
- Enrolled Agent
- Alteryx Designer - Advanced Certification
- CBAP - Certified Business Analysis Professional
- Certified SAFe Agilist
- Certified SAFe Product Owner / Product Manager
- Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)
- Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSCPO)
- UX or UX Master Certification
- Vendor certification for management of implementations (Oracle, SAP, etc).
Preferred:
- Enjoys operating as part of an empowered, cross-functional product team that moves quickly to meet user needs and deliver business impact.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, evidenced by experience translating dense technical or regulatory complexity into decision-ready views for non-technical audiences.
- Experience mentoring designers through critique, portfolio review, and project pairing, and establishing recurring design review cadences for a growing design practice.
- Published or public writing on product design practice, or comparable thought leadership within a design community.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted or AI-directed prototyping workflows, for example Figma MCP paired with an agentic coding tool.
- Experience designing simulation or preview steps that let technical users validate the impact of a change before committing it.
- Direct experience partnering with platform or infrastructure engineering teams whose primary customers are other internal engineering teams.
- Experience designing self-service workflows that replace support-ticket-dependent processes for enterprise customers.
- Advanced degree in a related field.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $131,175 to $249,250.
You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
