Job Title: Senior Safety Supervisor (HSE - Life Sciences Construction)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Safety Supervisor to provide robust health, safety, and environmental (HSE) leadership for major construction projects, specifically within life sciences and high-tech environments. In this role, you will partner closely with Project Management, Construction Teams, and regional leadership to cultivate a world-class safety culture focused on zero worker injuries and uninterrupted project execution.
This is a high-visibility leadership role requiring a balanced mix of field presence and administrative safety governance. You will provide technical guidance, review subcontractor hazard assessments, conduct compliance audits, and lead incident management processes. Key Responsibilities
HSE Leadership & Program Execution
โข Culture & Compliance: Champion proactive safety initiatives, championing a culture of zero incidents, safe work practices, and continuous improvement.
โข Technical Guidance: Interpret complex safety regulations and provide training, technical reviews, and governance oversight to project teams and contractors.
โข Plan Development: Assist in developing and implementing project-specific HSE plans, emergency response procedures, and site safety protocols.
Field Operations & Subcontractor Oversight
โข Field Presence: Maintain a highly visible presence on-site, balancing administrative responsibilities with active field coaching, safety observations, and multi-trade compliance reviews.
โข Hazard Assessments: Review subcontractor Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), safety documentation, and operational readiness reviews.
โข Training & Mentorship: Deliver impactful safety training, toolbox talks, and provide ongoing mentorship to field supervisors and craft personnel.
Incident Management & Continuous Improvement
โข Investigation & Reporting: Lead and support incident notifications, root-cause investigations, and reporting workflows.
โข Return-to-Work: Facilitate injury management, medical case tracking, and return-to-work activities.
โข Corrective Action: Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on safety performance metrics and incident findings.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
โข Education: Bachelor's degree in HSE, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and relevant construction experience).
โข Experience Baseline: 5 to 10 years of progressive construction industry experience, comprising a blend of:
oDedicated HSE/EHS experience supporting active construction sites; and/or
oConstruction trade or craft experience in a leadership/supervisory role (e.g., Foreman, Superintendent, Lead Craft) with formal safety responsibilities.
โข Required Certifications (Level Dependent): Must hold at least one of the following:
oOSHA 30-Hour Construction
oOSHA 510
oCHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
oCSP (Certified Safety Professional)
โข Technical Mastery: Working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations; proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
โข Core Competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build trust and influence craft personnel, sub-contractors, and project leadership.
Preferred Attributes
โข Direct experience supporting construction projects within regulated, pharmaceutical, or mission-critical life sciences environments.
โข Demonstrated success leading through influence across multi-contractor and multi-trade workforces.
