HRH School Nurse RN-Avon High School Part Time- Full time during the school year

Job Summary :ย 

Hendricks Regional Health Employee providing the fullest educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness, and creating a climate of health and well-being in the school. To strengthen and facilitate the education process by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning and promote optimal levels of well being to student. To provide and/or enhance existing quality medical and health educational experiences. To provide direction to non-licensed and/or licensed practical nurses as assigned.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:ย 

1. Fiscal Responsibility

a. Obtains and utilizes supplies and equipment efficiently, and streamlines processes to eliminate waste and promote cost savings.

b. Demonstrates efficiency in daily operations, completes duties in a timely fashion, and manages/documents scheduled hours per established practice.

c. Attends education as scheduled and completes documentation per

procedure.

2. Quality

a. Provides quality triage, treatment or first aid for students who are ill or

injured and/or enhances existing quality medical and health educational

experiences.

b. Interprets, implements and documents quality measures per Indiana State Board of Health specific standards and remains up to date with policy changes and standards of care.

c. Possesses critical thinking, positive attitude, the ability to multitask, and appropriately delegate.

d. Streamlines processes looking at the student experience.

e. Creates Individualized Healthcare Plans when student health warrants.

3. Patient Satisfaction

a. Demonstrates excellent, effective verbal, written, and non-verbal

communication and non-judgmental posture with students, school staff, and parents in practice and conferences.

b. Practices professional use of personal electronic devices in care areas and maintains privacy/confidentiality at all times.

c. Presents a genuine care and concern for all students and meets specific healthcare needs of the students in assigned buildings.

d. Facilitate the educational process by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning.

4. Patient Safety

a. Practices safety practices accordance with universal precautions in provision of care, fall prevention, safe patient mobilization with proper body mechanics, and measures, interprets and applies vital signs to health assessment.

b. Practices safe medication administration, uses 2 patient identifiers with all procedures, and maintains accurate and complete records.

c. Maintains knowledge of current pharmacology.

d. Provides student and parent education when indicated, and ensures mandated immunizations/testing is complete and documented annually.

e. Disseminates information and training specific to student health to school personnel who have legitimate educational interest per regulation.

f. Implements established protocols as approved by the medical director based on identified criteria.

5. Professional Growth

a. Maintains competency by subbing on a routine basis.

b. Demonstrates leadership and exemplary behavior as an adult role model for students and a resource for school staff.

c. Participates in AIM high and/or participates in professional organization activities and/or is an active council member.

d. Attends conferences, in-services, webinars, seminars, and reads journal articles related to school and or public health.

6. Customer Service

a. Meets identified customer service standards, addresses ethical issues, and Understands and demonstrates HRH's nursing mission, vision, values and philosophy.

b. Exhibits excellent guest relations to students, parents, visitors, co-workers, physicians, interacts with the public, and promotes collegial relationships with school principal and administrative personnel.

c. Provides holistic, competent care to students of all age groups and diverse populations.

d. Fosters relationships with future healthcare students and education programs.

e. Provides a professional and quiet patient environment.

f. Performs clinical procedures under the scope of license with MD order or protocol.

Education and Experience Required:ย ย 

1. Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with an Associate in Nursing Degree required. Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) preferred or required with 5 years of hire date.

2. 1-2 years of experience in health field relating to school age children and/or previous experience in school nursing required

3. BLS and computer skills required.

4. Area specific required education may be obtained upon hire and is to be maintained.

Mandatory Licensure/Certifications:ย 

Current licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nurses' Registration and Nursing Education as an active Registered Nurse
