HR Business Partner Manager

Location: Indianapolis, IN

About the Role

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) Manager serves as a strategic advisor and operational leader supporting assigned business units across the Tom Wood Group. This role partners closely with Sr. Director of Human Resources, this position will oversee a team of 3 to 6 HR professionals.

This role balances hands-on HR execution with leadership and team development responsibilities. It is ideal for an experienced HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-site environment and is passionate about employee engagement, compliance, operational excellence and delivers solutions that align with company goals while reinforcing Tom Wood’s core values of being Humbly Confident, Passionately Driven, having a Sincere Desire to Help Others, and operating with Uncompromising Integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership & Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent strategy
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of HR Business Partners across multiple locations
  • Partner with leadership to drive engagement, retention, and culture initiatives
  • Identify business risks and develop proactive HR solutions

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Provide expert guidance on employee relations, performance management, and conflict resolution
  • Oversee complex investigations ensuring fair, objective, and compliant outcomes
  • Ensure consistent interpretation and application of HR policies and employment laws
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards in all HR activities

Talent & Workforce Planning

  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to develop hiring strategies and workforce plans
  • Identify high-risk turnover areas and implement retention strategies
  • Support leadership in succession planning and internal mobility

HR Operations & Execution

  • Oversee HR processes across assigned locations, including onboarding, offboarding, and policy execution
  • Ensure consistency in HR practices, processes, and documentation
  • Support compensation/pay plans and benefits administration in partnership with HR leadership

Field Engagement

  • Maintain regular presence at assigned locations to build strong relationships and stay connected to team dynamics
  • Serve as a visible HR leader and culture ambassador

Success Indicators

  • Improved employee engagement and retention across assigned business units
  • Consistent application of HR policies and reduction in compliance risk
  • Strong leadership capability across managers and supervisors
  • Effective partnership with Talent Acquisition resulting in faster, higher-quality hires
  • Positive feedback from leadership and employees

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 6+ years of progressive HR experience, including Business Partner experience
  • Prior leadership or team management experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive business outcomes
  • Experience with HRIS systems (ADP or similar preferred)
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to travel between locations on a regular basis.
