Job description

Civil Rights Investigator / Legal Analyst
Location: Indianapolis, IN 
Work Schedule: Onsite | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (37.5 hours/week)
Duration: 5-6 Months +
Interview: In-Person Only
Pay Rate: $22.25/hr

About the Role
We are seeking a Civil Rights Investigator / Legal Analyst to investigate complaints involving discrimination under the Indiana Civil Rights Law and Fair Housing Laws. This position involves conducting investigations, interviewing parties and witnesses, analyzing evidence, preparing legal case summaries, and making recommendations regarding probable cause findings.
Key Responsibilities
Investigate discrimination complaints related to civil rights and fair housing laws.
Conduct interviews with complainants, respondents, and witnesses via phone, in-office, or onsite.
Gather, review, and analyze documents, evidence, testimony, and statistical data.
Prepare detailed investigative reports and legal case summaries with findings and recommendations.
Maintain accurate case files, investigation timelines, and database records.
Manage an active caseload while meeting monthly productivity goals.
Perform legal analysis of completed investigations.
Educate the public and stakeholders regarding civil rights laws.
Collaborate with attorneys, mediators, and other team members.
May occasionally testify during evidentiary or appeal hearings.
Travel as needed for onsite investigations or training.
 
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
2+ years of investigation experience or a Paralegal Certification.
Experience with the Civil Rights Act and Fair Housing Laws.
Knowledge of Indiana Civil Rights Law, regulations, and relevant court decisions.
Experience gathering, analyzing, and evaluating evidence and witness testimony.
Strong analytical, investigative, and legal research skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of civil rights principles, practices, and current trends at the state and national levels.
 
Work Environment
100% onsite in downtown Indianapolis.
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (37.5 hours/week).
Occasional travel for investigations and training.
May be required to testify in evidentiary or appeal hearings.
