Summary:

The Estimator will analyze construction blueprints to determine the quantity and cost of materials and fixtures needed as well as the amount of labor required to complete each bid. They will assist the Estimating department with team bids or may be assigned to lead a team bid. The Estimator will be responsible for client follow-up and will assist the Sr. Estimator / Chief Estimator with client outreach/business development as appropriate.

Position Qualifications (minimum):

  • Must have an associate or bachelors degree in a related field (electrical engineering, construction management, etc.) or an Electrical Journeymans License.
  • Minimum (5) years of electrical industry estimating experience.
    • Experience in mission critical, large commercial, or water treatment is preferred.
  • Good quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electric Code and electrical theory.
  • Proficient skills in reading construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and data sheets.
  • Experience in layout of electrical equipment and systems, including design/build concepts such as electrical one-lines and feeder/branch circuit analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. Has good instructional ability, with patience to explain both software and electrical concepts to others.
  • Effective time management through proper planning, organization, and ability to handle multiple initiatives at the same time.
  • Self-motivated and flexible to accommodate changes in InPwrs business strategies.


Essential Functions:

  • Create / revise estimates, proposals, and change orders for current and prospective jobs.
  • Work with Preconstruction and Operations to build proposals that include accuracy in labor, time, and materials.
  • Identify project cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvements across projects and teams.
  • Responsible for project handoff between estimating and project management once project is awarded.
  • Request material and equipment quotes from vendors and equipment suppliers, confirm specification adherence and quote accuracy.
  • Perform takeoff for individually assigned projects.
  • Perform tasks required for team bids such as take-off, specification review.
  • Assist and/or lead team bids by fully understanding the RFP (including indirect costs), client bid breakdown and bid documents. May delegate tasks to other team members based on experience & ability.
  • Perform design/build bids by understanding the RFP and bid documents and be able to identify and quantify project unknowns or ambiguities. May work in conjunction with Engineering to finalize costs and design.
  • Weekly outreach and follow-up on pending bids.
  • Ability to bid volume of $6M-9M individually on a monthly basis. Work is reliably accurate, and questions/ambiguities are clarified ahead of bid reviews.
  • Other job duties as assigned based on the changing needs of the business.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.


Working/ Environment/ Physical Demandsto successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a stationary position that requires frequent sitting or standing, repetitive wrist motions, grasping, speaking, listening, close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employees in this position must be physically able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position.
