SUMMARY: A Houseman assists Room Attendants and Inspectors by transporting clean and dirty linens as well as delivering supplies and disposal of trash. A Houseman will also take incoming calls from Guest Services and complete requests accordingly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Conducts storage closet inventories and re-stocks as required.
  • Assists Room Attendants - including stripping bed linen and removing trash. Other duties as required.
  • Sorts dirty linen and terry, stores in separate carts (metros) and transports to basement.
  • Transports clean towels and linens from basement to store houseman closet as needed.
  • Keeps houseman closet clean, free of trash and organized at all times. Completes daily check list duties.
  • Delivers items to rooms, as requested by guests through the front desk (i.e. irons, extra linens, etc.)
  • Picks up and returns items used by previous guests that are found in rooms or hallways.
  • Maintains floor clear of trash and dirty lines and towels. Wipes spills as needed.
  • Uses the chemicals that have been provided in accordance with directions; familiarizes self with material safety data sheets and uses PPE (personal protective equipment) as necessary.
  • Practices safety procedures, including bending, lifting and safe use of equipment. Includes following safe procedures for protection against blood borne pathogens.
  • Reports hazardous conditions in work area or equipment, to Management.
  • Documents, secures lost and found items and turns them into Lost & Found, in accordance with Company policy.
  • Communicates with guests in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Completes the required form, as soon as possible, upon discovering any damage to property in hotel rooms or items missing from room inventory - then submit them to Manager.
  • This position requires regular and predictable attendance.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: (Level 2) Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: (Level 1) Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY: (Level 2) Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
