Job description

The Houseman is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order throughout a 65,000 sq ft facility, including an Emergency Shelter and outside grounds. In this role, the Houseman will ensure that all indoor and outdoor areas are clean, safe, and welcoming for all Employees, Clients and Visitors. Additionally, the Houseman will provide support for three satellite facilities, upholding the same standards of cleanliness and organization. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Facility Cleaning: Perform regular cleaning tasks including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing all areas of the facility, ensuring high standards of cleanliness.  

  • Emergency Shelter Maintenance: Pay special attention to the Emergency Shelter areas, ensuring that client spaces and common areas are consistently clean and well-maintained. Provide support to Housekeepers throughout their shift. 

  • Deliveries: Deliver and properly store as needed all packages received at the main Visitor’s Lobby.  Keep Lobby area clean and free of clutter at all times.  

  • Grounds Keeping: Maintain the exterior grounds, including landscaping, litter removal, snow removal, and ensuring that walkways, parking areas are safe and clear and Client entrance and common area (Courtyard). 

  • Restroom Upkeep: Assist Housekeepers in cleaning and sanitizing restrooms throughout the facility, restocking supplies as needed and ensuring hygiene standards are met. 

  • Satellite Facility Support: Travel to and support the maintenance needs of three satellite facilities, ensuring that all locations reflect the same cleanliness and safety standards. 

  • Inventory Management: Monitor and manage the inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, reporting any need for restocking to the Supervisor. 

  • Collaboration: Work closely with facility Leadership and Employees to address cleanliness and maintenance issues, contributing to a positive environment for Clients and Employees. 

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols while using cleaning agents and maintaining equipment. 

  • Client Interaction: Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor when interacting with Clients, maintaining and respecting boundaries, providing assistance as needed to foster a supportive environment. 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 

  • Previous custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in a large facility or shelter environment. 

  • Knowledge of cleaning products, techniques, and safety standards. 

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment. 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 

  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to maintaining a clean environment. 

  • Valid driver’s license may be required for travel to satellite facilities.
