Job description

Job Description:

Title: Household Manager with Pet Support

Location: Bloomfield, Hills, MI

Employment Type: Full-time (approximately 30 hours/week)

Proposed Start Date: Mid-August to early September

Compensation: $80,000 annually (W-2) | Overnight stays compensated in addition to base salary | 10 PTO days per year

Requirements:

  • Able to maintain a smoke-free environment
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a private household or estate management setting
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Reliable transportation required; mileage reimbursement provided when family vehicle is unavailable
  • Comfortable with regular overnight stays on property as needed
  • Weekend and holiday availability required; must be flexible and responsive with schedule changes
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Must love and be comfortable around large dogs

Proposed Schedule:

  • Core hours are flexible based on family needs.
  • This role requires weekend availability, holiday coverage (including July 4th, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Easter), and frequent overnight stays on property when the family is traveling.
  • Overnight stays are estimated at approximately 2-3 nights per month, with extended coverage during longer travel periods (up to two weeks at a time).
  • Ad hoc schedule is often determined on a rolling basis, often confirmed by Friday morning for the following weekend.

About Our Family:

We are an active couple based in the Bloomfield Hills area. One of us works full time in a professional field and keeps a structured, predictable schedule. The other is retired and stays busy with personal interests, fitness, social engagements, and family visits. We are private people who appreciate a calm, unobtrusive presence in our home. We do not want to feel crowded or managed; we want to feel taken care of without knowing it happened.

We travel frequently, including extended trips abroad, and we have family in and out throughout the year. Our dog,a friendly, lovable lab, is a central part of our household and requires consistent, attentive care.

We already have established support systems in place for routine cleaning and meal preparation, so this opportunity is best suited for a true Household Manager-someone who excels at coordination, oversight, systems, and execution rather than primarily providing direct housekeeping or culinary services.

The successful candidate will act as the operational hub of the household, ensuring projects, vendors, schedules, maintenance, and household logistics are managed proactively and with exceptional attention to detail.

Who We're Looking For

The right person for this role is seasoned, self-directed, and deeply professional. You understand the rhythm of a private home and know how to be helpful without being intrusive. You are the kind of person who notices what needs to be done and does it before anyone has to ask. You do not need to be told twice, and you do not bring problems without solutions. You are warm and personable but clear on appropriate boundaries; you understand that you are a professional in someone else's home, not a member of the household.

You are flexible by nature and understand that schedules in private service can shift. You do not push back when plans change; you adapt and you communicate. You are tech-savvy, organized, and follow through on every detail. You genuinely love animals and would be comfortable being our dog's primary caregiver during travel. Above all, you bring a "fix it before they find out" mentality to everything you do.

Key Responsibilities

Pet Care

  • Primary caregiver for our large, friendly lab
  • Daily feeding, walking, and general care
  • Overnight stays on property when the family is away to ensure our dog is cared for and comfortable
  • Schedule dog grooming appts (every 4-6 weeks) and dog exercise appts (once a week)
  • Schedule vet appts in coordination with owner
  • Give dog medicine and supplements as needed
  • Coordinate with weekly poop cleanup service
  • Keep all pet supplies stocked and organized

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Maintain existing household organization systems (systems will be established and trained prior to start)
  • Light daily tidying: dishes, surfaces, high-traffic areas
  • Seasonal clothing swaps, decor changes, and bedding rotations
  • Prepare and coordinate donation drop-offs, with emphasis on closet organization projects
  • Check and replace batteries, light bulbs, and smoke detectors on a routine basis
  • Maintain and clean humidifiers and air purifiers
  • Garage, mudroom, and entryway organization and upkeep

Vendor & Property Oversight

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for cleaners, contractors, landscapers, HVAC technicians, generator service, and sprinkler maintenance
  • Oversee and direct the cleaning team; escalate concerns as needed
  • Research vendors, gather quotes, and coordinate repairs
  • Manage seasonal property maintenance, including outdoor furniture storage and preparation
  • Oversee management of outdoor spaces and the vendors who maintain them
  • Take garbage out to curb, and bring back in to house

Inventory & Errands

  • Restock pantry, fridge, and all household supplies on a regular basis
  • Manage running household supply lists and place orders through Amazon, Costco, Target, and other retailers
  • Ensure dry cleaning is hung out on hook and brought in once dropped off from delivery/pick up service
  • Bring mail in, sort and take bills to owner's office

Meal Support

  • Assist with hosting holiday dinners (Rosh Hashanah and one night of Passover)
  • Coordinate and pick up prepared meals from a nearby chef and deliver to the home
  • Light meal prep as needed: simple staples, snacks, and easy items on hand
  • Grocery runs to local markets as needed
  • Kitchen clean-up and general maintenance of food prep areas

Laundry & Linens

  • Coordinate dry cleaning drop-off and pickup
  • Keep the laundry area tidy and well stocked

Vehicle Upkeep

  • Schedule routine maintenance for family vehicles
  • Coordinate fueling, car washes, and interior organization

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Oversee occasional deep cleans conducted by the cleaning team (refrigerator, oven, baseboards, etc.)
  • Take on organizational projects as they arise, including storage areas and seasonal transitions
  • Refresh and maintain garage, mudroom, and entry spaces

Administrative & Personal Assistant Support

  • Track and submit household receipts and support basic budget oversight
  • Coordinate travel planning, including contacting pilot, catering, handling car rentals for arrivals, hotel bookings, etc.
  • Assist with packing and unpacking for travel, along with getting luggage upon arrival home (from airport or at house)
  • Keep track of family birthdays, present gift ideas, purchase, wrap and ship gifts
  • Manage shared apple calendar, and coordinate with EA on all necessary appts
