Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Mother/Baby position on the night shift, requiring strong L&D and postpartum skills within a Level II Perinatal Center.

Details
  • Work in the Birth Center unit of a Level III Trauma Center hospital
  • Unit includes 9 LDR beds, 2 OB OR, 2 OB PACU, 11 Level II NICU beds, 4-bed Peds, 20-bed Mother/Baby unit, and 3 OB ED beds
  • Level II Perinatal Center caring for patients 32 weeks gestation and above
  • Patient population includes hypertension, magnesium administration, substance abuse medication management, epidurals, and fetal monitoring
  • Handles antepartum care requiring continued fetal monitoring and post-labor couplet care
  • Unit averages 175-200 deliveries per month
  • Patient ratios follow AWHONN and NANN guidelines: 1:1 for active labor and 1:2 for non-active laboring patients
  • 12-hour night shift schedule with shifts from 1900-0700
  • 36 hours per week with rotating weekends (every other weekend)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Schedule is created in 3-week increments
  • Floating limited to areas of competency, primarily between L&D and Mother/Baby units
  • Not required to float to the START unit
  • EMR systems used include EPIC Stork and GE Centricity
  • Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system
Requirements
  • Active WA or compact RN license required
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and fetal monitoring certification (AWHONN or Relia's module)
  • Strong L&D experience including cervical exams, antepartum and labor care, amnio infusion, epidurals, fetal monitoring, IV insertion, and Pitocin administration
  • Postpartum experience with mother and baby care beyond the initial 24-hour transition period
  • Basic breastfeeding support knowledge required
  • Experience with couplet care once mother and baby are stable
  • Pyxis medication dispensing system experience required
  • Scrub experience preferred
  • First-time travelers will be considered

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care across labor, delivery, and postpartum stages

  • Unit does not have CNAs; Surgery Techs available Monday-Friday 0600-1500
  • Phlebotomy services available on-site
  • NICU team attends deliveries for babies 34 weeks or less
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for high-risk deliveries or concerning strips
  • Hospitalist and Laborist OBGYN coverage available 24/7
  • OB Group, Midwife, and Family Practice Group support the unit
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and two unit shifts covering delivery and C-section/triage scenarios
  • Annual core competencies (HIPAA, OSHA), medication exam, and unit competency exam must be completed before arrival
  • Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor holiday
  • Time off requests require manager approval
