Overview Now hiring experienced, certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators to join our team and play a vital role in protecting public health, preserving our environment, and ensuring reliable wastewater treatment operations. The City of Madera is seeking qualified candidates for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators who hold a Grade III Certificate as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator from the California State Water Quality Control Board. The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-conscious professional with strong technical skills and a commitment to excellence.

This position is eligible for up to 2 incentive pays at 5% each upon completion of higher certifications earned (Grade IV, Grade V). Primary Responsibilities The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of plant operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plants, and incumbents are expected to perform the full scope of assigned duties. This classification is distinguished from the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II by performing the full range of duties allowed by possess of a Grade III Certificate as a Wastewater Operator Minimum Qualifications Possess the equivalent of 2 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment laboratory or the performance of related work High school diploma or equivalent supplemented with appropriate coursework in laboratory testing and analysis Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license Possession of a Grade III Certificate as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator from the California State Water Quality Control Board Additional Information Only those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process.

Examination scores determine standing on Civil Service eligibility lists. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list. The examination process may consist of the following parts: Application Package Review: Qualifying Only; Practical Exam 100% Weight Value.

Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list. Applicants who require special examination accommodations due to a disability should contact the Human Resources Department five (5) business days prior to any scheduled examination at (559) 661-5404. Applicants may be eligible for Veteran's Preference Points (5 points) and should attach a DD214 to their employment application for consideration of this preference.
