Job description

Job Title: Quality Technician

Job Description

The Quality Technician performs water immersion ultrasonic setups, examinations, and testing of components to determine the acceptability of materials and finished products. This role prepares materials, operates and adjusts ultrasonic equipment, and documents inspection results in accordance with established procedures and specifications. The technician reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, specifications, and scan procedures to ensure accurate testing and reporting in a high-quality manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate water immersion ultrasonic testing equipment to examine components and materials for internal and external defects.
  • Prepare materials for examination by cleaning, identifying, labeling, and positioning parts for ultrasonic inspection.
  • Apply appropriate testing methods and techniques to evaluate material integrity and product quality.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and scan procedures to perform accurate ultrasonic setups and tests.
  • Document inspection findings clearly and accurately, including test parameters, results, and any nonconformances.
  • Evaluate test results to determine acceptability of materials and products based on applicable standards and specifications.
  • Maintain equipment in proper working condition by performing basic checks and reporting issues that require maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality, engineering, and production, to communicate inspection results and support problem-solving.
  • Follow all safety procedures and quality standards while working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of inspection processes by providing feedback on procedures and test setups.

Essential Skills

  • At least two years of manufacturing experience or a technical degree/certification.
  • NDT schooling or prior NDT work experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience or training in non-destructive testing, particularly ultrasonic inspection.
  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to work with and adjust testing equipment.
  • Inspection and quality assurance experience in a manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and scan procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Military experience (not required but recognized as valuable).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspection results.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical degree or certification related to manufacturing, engineering, or non-destructive testing.
  • Formal NDT schooling in ultrasonic testing or related methods.
  • Prior NDT inspection or non-destructive inspector experience in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort working with precision instruments and testing equipment.
  • Experience working within structured quality systems and following documented procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and communicate quality issues.
  • Willingness to work assigned shifts and adapt to production needs.

Work Environment

The role is based in a well-lit, climate-controlled manufacturing facility that was refurbished in 2020 and equipped with modern technology. Each technician has an individual workstation to perform ultrasonic testing and related inspection activities. The facility operates multiple shifts, including a first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, a second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and dedicated weekend day and night shifts from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. respectively. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to safety and quality standards while working with ultrasonic testing equipment and related inspection tools.

The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $54080.00/yr.
