Job Description

General Summary:

The principal responsibility of the Software Engineer is to develop and maintain applications that support our QuickScan platform and the diagnostic tests that use them. QuickScan is a series of integrated hardware and software reader systems used to interpret lateral flow test results for operational decision-making at detection points all along the food and feed supply chain.

The Software Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of QuickScan software, including the addition of new features, debugging, and cross-platform support. This position will also collaborate with back-end and front-end developers to support integration of QuickScan software with the cloud-based data management system TotalHub. There may be opportunities for hardware development. The Software Engineer brings a customer-first approach to product development, investigation, and manufacturing support with internal and external users. This is a continuing growth position in software engineering and product technology with opportunities to explore and deepen enterprise-level skills on a wide variety of software and hardware systems.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Own the development and maintenance of QuickScan, including new features, refactoring, and defect resolution

  • Build and release engineering, including toolchain setup, build outputs and release management

  • Maintain project dependencies to ensure stable, repeatable builds across development environments

  • Write and maintain developer documentation including build/run SOPs and troubleshooting playbooks

  • Diagnose and resolve production issues reported by manufacturing, field teams, and customers

  • Follow change management best practices to maintain high product quality through the lifecycle

  • Collaborate with TotalHub integration partners to support workflows, data transport, and customer UX

  • Participate in formal problem solving and continuous improvement activities to reduce process waste

  • Contribute to design and troubleshooting discussions to gather voice-of-customer feedback

  • Create and maintain development documentation to preserve knowledge across the product lifecycle

  • Take ownership of communication including consistent follow-up with internal and external customers

Skills Required:

  • Strong experience building and supporting production C++ applications

  • Strong Qt experience with Qt Widgets/Qt Quick, UI tooling, and model/view patterns

  • Strong Windows native development/build experience, including MSVC toolchain and CLI builds

  • Experience with JavaScript in production environments is required

  • Strong debugging expertise, with proven ability to isolate failures across code, libraries, and dependencies

  • Superb and timely written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and collaboration tools, including Teams

  • Demonstrated ability to create clarity through standard work and documentation

  • Agility to move from feature engineering to field support without losing quality

  • Commitment to repeatable execution across build, test, and release processes

  • Experience with Agile (Plan, Sprint, Review), formal problem solving, and continuous improvement is a plus

  • Experience using modern AI-assisted tools for debugging, documentation, and test acceleration is a plus

  • Experience with cloud integrations including Amazon Web Services and client-to-cloud data flows is a plus

  • Experience with Elixir and/or React programming or troubleshooting is a plus

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in CS/SE/CE/EE (or related field) preferred

  • Minimum 3 - 4 years of experience developing and supporting C++ software in production environments

  • Additional skills training and certifications are welcome but not required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

  • Ability to work in manufacturing, office, and laboratory environments

The anticipated range for this position is: $90,000 - $135,000 per year. Salary is determined in good faith based on factors such as the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, requirements of the position, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
