How much do hourly set dresser jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for hourly set dresser in the United States is $21.06, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.35 and $24.04 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the difference between Hourly Set Dresser vs Production Designer?

AspectHourly Set DresserProduction Designer
Primary RoleAssists in dressing and decorating sets according to the director's visionDesigns the overall visual concept and style of the production
CredentialsExperience in set dressing, decorating, or related fieldsBackground in design, art, or architecture, often with a portfolio
Work EnvironmentOn-location or studio sets during filmingOffice, location scouting, and collaboration with directors and departments
Industry UsageCommonly hired for specific scenes or set dressing tasksInvolved in the creative planning and visual development of the entire production

While both roles contribute to the visual aesthetic of a production, the Hourly Set Dresser focuses on decorating sets during filming, whereas the Production Designer is responsible for the overall visual concept and design. The set dresser works under the production designer's vision to bring scenes to life through detailed set dressing.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

An hourly set dresser typically earns between $15 and $30 per hour, with high-demand projects or overtime potentially increasing income, but reaching $10,000 a month is uncommon without significant experience or working long hours. Generally, jobs that pay $10,000 monthly without a degree are in sales, entrepreneurship, or specialized trades like real estate or certain tech roles, which often require skills, certifications, or self-employment. For set dressers, advanced experience and working on large productions can boost earnings, but reaching $10,000 monthly usually involves additional factors beyond the standard role.

What jobs make around $100,000 a year?

For an hourly set dresser, earning around $100,000 annually typically requires working long hours, overtime, or in high-cost-of-living areas, as the standard hourly rate is usually below that threshold. Most set dressers earn between $15 and $30 per hour, so reaching six figures often involves additional income sources or advanced experience in the film and television industry.

What jobs in the US pay $300,000 a year?

For an Hourly Set Dresser, earning $300,000 annually is uncommon, as this role typically pays much less. High-paying jobs in the entertainment industry, such as film or television production managers or executive producers, can reach or exceed this level, but they usually require extensive experience, leadership skills, and often involve long hours and high responsibility. Most roles with such salaries are in executive, medical, or specialized technical fields rather than entry-level or support roles like set dressing.

How to get a job as a set dresser?

To become a set dresser, gain experience in set decoration or related fields such as interior design or art, and develop skills in organization, attention to detail, and knowledge of props and furniture. Building a portfolio and networking within the film and television industry can help secure entry-level positions, often requiring familiarity with tools like hand trucks and basic carpentry. Some roles may require a high school diploma or equivalent, and on-the-job training is common.
