Job description

Plant Mechanic - Plant Ratcliffe

This position is based in De Kalb, Mississippi.

This position will be covered by the memorandum of Agreement between Mississippi Power and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 

Job Requirements 

Troubleshoot and repair mechanical problems on equipment in an industrial environment. The position will be filled at a Journeyman level based on experience in the maintenance of power plants and/or similar industrial settings. Will be required to be a member of and participate on the plant Emergency Response Team. The successful candidate will be expected to cross train and qualify as an Operator on the Control Board to achieve up to the level of Station Technician. Candidate will also serve as a mentor and participate in training Operators as Mechanics as they work through the Journeyman Development Program.

Job Knowledge 

  • 5 or more years' experience as a Journeyman Mechanic required
  • Experience with Heat Recovery Steam Generators preferred 
  • Experience with Gas Turbines preferred
  • Experience with pump repair & rebuild required
  • Experience with Mechanical Seals required
  • Experience with rotating equipment alignment required
  • CBM (Condition Based Maintenance) experience a plus
  • Experience with valves and piping systems repair preferred
  • Experience welding (Stick, MIG, TIG) preferred
  • Experience using an oxygen/acetylene torch preferred
  • Machine Shop/Tool and Die experience a plus
  • Experience in using precision measurement tools required
  • Experience rigging and lifting heavy equipment preferred
  • Must be able to read and understand equipment drawings, P&IDs, Isometrics required
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply technical instruction manuals required
  • Must be able to use power and hand tools required
  • Must possess intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office applications, Maximo a plus) 
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
