JOB SUMMARY:

A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who has demonstrated expertise in Labor and Delivery along with pre/postpartum care. Effectively delivers critical care to the patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the Charge Nurse possesses the following skills: demonstrated leadership ability, ability to process multiple sources of information independently utilizing critical thinking, is adaptable to frequently changing situations, understands and responds to the needs of a multi-disciplinary team, works to build trust, is passionate about the needs of the customer (patient, family, providers, team members), demonstrated communication skills, and works to empower all members of the team to work toward their full potential. This position is responsible to ensure that timely, accurate, and professional nursing care is provided to the patients and families.

JOB DUTIES:

ย 

  1. Completes admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication and physical assessment.
  2. Identifies accurately, nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care.
  3. Initiates and documents discharge and transfer planning; facilitates โ€œPatient Centeredโ€ communication and care.
  4. Assumes patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes.
  5. Communicates professionally and effectively with patients, families, co-workers, healthcare team members and ancillary departments to ensure โ€œPatient-Centeredโ€ coordination of care.
  6. Ensures plan of care is consistent with nursing standards and hospital policy and procedures.
  7. Participates in quality assurance activities to evaluate and improve patient care.
  8. Promotes an environment that encourages individual growth and heightens professional practice.
  9. Participates in professional growth and self-development activities to ensure accountability for own professional nursing practice.
  10. Participates in staff meetings, committees and special projects; actively contributes to Womenโ€™s Health and Birth Centerโ€™s quality and development.
  11. Collaborates with and delegates to ancillary/professional staff as appropriate; assures adherence to their scopes of practice, considering licensure and/or certification. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย 
  12. Assess, implement and evaluate education and nursing care for mother/baby couplets and other assigned patients.
  13. Assists with cares for the antepartum and intrapartum patient as delegated by the primary nurse. Examples would be: completion of nursing navigators, fetal monitor placement, vital signs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current RN license in the State of Minnesota
  2. Current BLS certification
  3. Current NRP certification or attends NRP within 6 months of employment and maintains certification.
  4. Equivalent of 6 months Medical/Surgical experience.
