Prisma is seeking experienced Court Interpreters to join our independent contractor team. In this role you will provide one or more of the following interpretation services to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB):

  • OSI - The onsite (in person) role requires traveling to NHJB court houses in New Hampshire. NH court locations include but are not limited to: Concord, Manchester and Salem. Onsite interpreters must live within reasonable driving distance to these NH court sites.
  • VRI - Prescheduled video remote interpretation services (e.g. via Zoom) to multiple NHJB courts.
  • OPI - Prescheduled over-the-phone interpretation services (via Boostlingo) to multiple NHJB courts.

IN-DEMAND LANGUAGES:

SPANISH plus ARABIC, CHINESE (Mandarin), FRENCH, HAITIAN CREOLE, NEPALI, PORTUGUESE, SWAHILI, and VIETNAMESE. If your language is not in this list, you are welcome to apply if you meet all minimum requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Training - Completed training that aligns with the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) model curriculum in three core areas: Interpretation Techniques, Legal/Court Terminology, and Interpreter Ethics.
  • Language Proficiency - Proficiency in English and the target language through an approved assessment. Some examples include but are not limited to:
    • Testing recognized by the NCSC
    • Tests recognized by a state judiciary language access program
    • Superior/Advanced-High score assessed by LTI/ACTFL, e.g. OPI/OPIc assessments for rare or indigenous dialects
    • Speaking and listening assessment (12+ score) by ALTA
  • Agree to undergo annual criminal history background checks
  • Strong understanding of court procedures
  • At least one (1) year of interpreting experience in a court setting
  • Two (2) professional references who can confirm your status as a court interpreter
  • Minimum age: Must be 18+ years or older
  • Minimum education: Must have High School Diploma

Candidates with any of the following credentials will be fast-tracked to interviewing/onboarding:

  • Federal Court Interpreter Certified (FCICE)
  • State Certified - Passed NCSC Oral Exam
  • Professionally Qualified - Passed United Nations or US State Department conference tests
  • State Registered - Passed NCSC Written Exam & Oral Proficiency Interview

Candidates shall also be able to provide:

  • Polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high-level of customer service.
  • Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speaker and the Limited English Proficient (LEP) speaker.
  • Correct grammar, clarity and tones between English and your native language.
  • Experience with following the speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of a conversation.
  • Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP
  • Compliance with applicable interpreter ethics and standards
