Job description

Senior NPI Plastics Engineer – DFM & Tooling

$140,000 - $170,000 + great benefits

Oakland, CA (Hybrid)

I’m working with a fast-growing energy technology company that is scaling a complex hardware manufacturing platform and looking to hire a Senior NPI Plastics Engineer with strong experience across plastic part DFM, injection molding, tooling, and manufacturing launch.

This is a technical role focused on taking plastic components from early design concept through manufacturability review, tooling development, supplier/tooling partner engagement, validation, and production ramp.

The key focus is upfront plastics engineering. You’ll work closely with design engineering and external tooling/molding partners to assess whether parts are moldable, toolable, and capable of scaling reliably before tooling is kicked off.

You’ll be involved in:

  • Plastic part DFM / DFMA reviews during early design stages
  • Tooling reviews, including gating, venting, cooling, parting lines, shutoffs, slides, lifters, and undercuts
  • Supplier/tooling partner feedback, print redlines, tolerance reviews, shrink/warp considerations, and Moldflow interpretation
  • Supporting tool builds, T0/T1 trials, sampling, validation, and launch readiness
  • Working through FAI, PPAP, control plans, PFMEAs, process capability, and corrective actions as parts move toward production
  • Partnering with design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and external suppliers to move parts from concept into production

This would suit someone from a plastics tooling, injection molding, product development, NPI, project engineering, manufacturing engineering, or supplier industrialization background.

Relevant experience could come from medical devices, consumer electronics, automotive plastics, industrial products, custom injection molding, tooling houses, battery systems, or high-volume plastic products.
