Job description

Operate magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Explain procedure to patient, position and immobilize patient on exam table and observe during scan under direction of physician. Monitor video display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality. Review and evaluate computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.

Job Responsibility:

  • Under the direction of a radiologist, performs MRI and MRA procedures.
  • Produces high quality images with minimum stress and exposure to the patient by dealing tactfully and cooperatively with patients and general public.
  • Provides information and explanation to patient in regard to examination
  • Checks patient identification and screening form in order to ensure proper administration of MRI & MRA procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to properly position the patient on the table as required for the exam requested.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate the MRI unit as per protocols.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of new technologists.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to follow departmental protocols to produce appropriate studies.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

  • High School diploma or equivalency, required. Completion of two (2) years American Medical Association approved School of Radiologic Technology, required.
  • Licensed by State of New York Department of Health, required.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years MRI experience in a hospital based setting utilizing a high field strength magnet, required.
  • Experience with PACS and RIS and computer controlled equipment such as MR scanners, required.
