Our Own Lives, a non-profit providing empowering, person-led disability services in the Colorado 4 Corners area, is seeking a Social Media Specialist to support our Social Media presence. The ideal candidate will have lived experience and connections to the local disability community, experience producing Social Media content, and a passion for helping people and organizations tell engaging stories! $17.93 per hour for 1-5 hours per week. Additional hours working in disability support roles are available.
Title: Social Media Specialist
Reports to: CEO
FLSA: Hourly/Non-exempt Part-Time
Job Description: This position supports our social media presence by generating, identifying, and publishing social media content that is consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Our Own Lives. The specialist will help develop content that will support the organization and people in and around the organization to tell their stories and build a positive image of themselves and the organization in our communities. The specialist will help manage responses and engagement with OOL Social Media accounts and give guidance and input into decisions about social media account management.
This position is intended to be in the range of 1-5 hours per week, doing a range of the different work tasks listed below during that time in a priority mutually agreed between the Social Media Specialist and their manager.
Responsibilities:

  • Advances the mission, vision and values of Our Own Lives while performing the responsibilities of this position.ย 
  • Generates OOL social media content through interviews, video, photos, art, illustrations, and other methods of content generation to support boosting the community profile of OOL, people in services, and staff.ย 
  • Seeks organic opportunities to identify and create content in and around OOL events and activities.ย 
  • Supports OOL and people associated with the organization to โ€œtell their stories.โ€ย 
  • Supports people associated with OOL in developing their own social media literacy
  • Supports people associated with OOL in their own Social Media projects as resources allow
  • Follows information security best practices to maintain security of OOL accounts and information.
  • Maintains HIPAA compliance and obtains media releases as applicable for people enrolled in services with OOL
  • Provides feedback and participates in messaging strategy discussion for OOL events, fundraisers, advocacy opportunities and other organization messaging.
  • Works in a self-directed manner, seeking feedback and guidance from management and staff as needed to perform duties.ย 
  • Coordinates and communicates needs and deadlines with other OOL staff members.ย 
  • Coordinates transportation to attend events or off site OOL activities as needed for Social Media content creation.ย 
  • May engage in other activities to gain knowledge or experience for employment in other roles with OOL as mutually agreed between the employer and their manager.ย

Minimum Qualifications:

Previous experience in managing social media accounts and generating social media content, experience in content generation for businesses or organizations preferred. Lived experience will be considered in lieu of other qualifications if appropriate.ย  All training requirements for Our Own Lives must be completed (HIPAA, information security).ย 
Physical Demands of the Job: These essential tasks may be performed with or without accommodation, or with assistive technology. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and/or stand, manipulate items, reach and secure items, hear and have the ability to communicate on a verbal basis and written basis. Employees in this position spend considerable time on the computer writing and corresponding. The employee must be able to read text on the computer and paper documents. Communicating with others via email, letters and telephone is required.ย  The employee must have adequate visual acuity with or without correction. The employee may be required to travel to meetings, training, home monitoring, and other community activities.
