Construction Apprentice - Foundation Repair

Heartland Foundation Repair

Kansas City, KS

$30/hr

Full-time

Posted 8 days ago

Job description

You go back and fix the thing nobody would've caught, not because someone's watching, but because you'd know it was wrong. Heartland Foundation Repair is a small crew in the Kansas City metro that fixes failing foundations with piering, waterproofing, and foam, and we tell homeowners the truth even when it costs us the job.

You'll learn the foam side at Cory's shoulder, starting with the small jobs, crack injections and Zytex wall penetrations, plus demo and finish work, while you build toward running the rig on your own. Once you're trusted with the rig, you're the person who lets Cory get off it and back into selling.

This is a full-time non-exempt field position based out of our shop in the Kansas City metro (Johnson County, KS), working Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm.

WHAT THE WORK ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Day to day, you're on the foam rig with Cory, backing the truck and trailer onto tight residential lots, running crack injections and wall penetrations, and doing the demo and finish work that puts a house back together. You'll work around foam chemistry that can turn toxic if you don't respect it, crawl into tight basements and crawl spaces, and keep the warehouse stocked and the rig maintained between jobs. Most of what you do well never gets inspected; a family just has to trust the work under their slab was done right.

WHO BELONGS HERE

  • The number we quote a customer is the number they pay, and you protect that even when telling the truth costs a job.

  • You see what the work in front of you needs and do it, whether or not it's technically your task.

  • A new noise in the rig makes you stop and find out what it is instead of driving on.

  • On the gun, where no one can see the injection, you read it by sound, feel, and smell, and you test-shoot before a drop goes on the ground.

  • You came to learn a trade, not to defend the way you've always done it.

PAY AND PATH

$20 to $30 per hour depending on experience.

WHY WORK AT HEARTLAND

  • Learn a real trade directly from the person who knows it cold, not from a video

  • Company truck, foam rig, and equipment provided

Compensation:

$20 - $30 hourly

Responsibilities:
  • Learn to run the foam rig hands-on with Cory, using sound, feel, and color to judge each pour, and always test-shooting before material goes underground
  • Fill out the schedule between foam jobs with crack injection and Zytex wall penetration work
  • Maneuver and position the truck and trailer on tight residential lots without putting a scratch on the equipment or the property
  • Tear out and rebuild what the job requires, finishing sheetrock to a standard that holds up in someone's home
  • Load the trucks and restock the warehouse so the crew never opens a job short
  • Watch the rig's oil, tires, fuel, generator, and compressor, and speak up on a problem before it takes a crew off a job
  • Build toward running foam jobs solo, with callback-free work as the bar

Qualifications:
  • Experience in construction or a related field is a plus, but a willingness to learn is essential

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a small team, ensuring every job is completed to a high standard

  • Proven track record of reliability and punctuality, showing up ready to work every day

  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently

  • Ability to maneuver and position trucks and trailers safely in tight residential areas

  • Comfortable working in various environments, including basements and crawl spaces

  • Basic mechanical skills to maintain equipment and identify potential issues before they escalate

About Company

Heartland Foundation Repair fixes the scariest, most expensive problem in a house: a failing foundation, with piering, waterproofing, and foam. We win over the cheaper bid because homeowners trust us to give them a straight diagnosis, a fair price, and a repair that holds. We're a small crew running a real business and building toward a bigger one: crew chiefs running the field, foam operators, and a warehouse that's ready before the morning starts. If you want to learn a trade for real and build a career instead of working a gig, this is where you start.
