About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Generator Technician with hands‑on experience in standby and rental generator sets. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining generator systems ranging from residential units to large industrial installations. You’ll work independently in the field, manage your own schedule, and deliver professional service to customers who depend on reliable power solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on generator systems
  • Read wiring diagrams to troubleshoot electrical issues
  • Conduct engine diagnostics on natural gas and diesel units
  • Test automatic transfer switches (ATS) and control systems
  • Document work professionally and maintain detailed service reports
  • Communicate clearly with customers about findings and recommendations
  • Manage time and priorities independently while maintaining high standards of professionalism
  • Keep service vehicle clean, organized, and well‑maintained

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of hands‑on experience with standby and rental generator sets
  • Experience with natural gas and diesel engine systems
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and perform systematic troubleshooting
  • Primary experience with 20–150 kW residential/light commercial units; exposure to 200–500 kW commercial units and 1 MW+ industrial systems highly valued
  • Hands‑on experience with Cummins and Kohler generators required; familiarity with MTU, CAT, Generac, or other major brands a plus
  • Knowledge of fuel systems (natural gas required; diesel and bi‑fuel systems a plus)
  • Familiarity with emissions systems (Tier 4 standards) preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, including root cause analysis
  • Ability to work within a one‑hour travel radius; clean driving record required
  • Professional demeanor, strong communication skills, and customer‑focused mindset

  • OSHA Certification (safety standards)
  • EPA Certification (emissions compliance)
