Job description

A great sales professional doesn't just sell solutions, they solve problems before the client even knows they have them. If you're the kind of person who can walk into a plant, see inefficiencies others miss, and build relationships that turn into long-term partnerships, we want to talk. We're looking for someone who can hunt for new business, close deals, and become a trusted advisor to manufacturers across the Southwest.

Who We Are

At Vertech, not only do we develop world class industrial automation solutions for some of the top US companies, we also strive to be the team of choice for the best and brightest talent. I mean, we call ourselves control freaks for a reason. The passion (and intelligence) our employees have is truly mind-blowing. In turn, we work hard to take care of our own with excellent benefits and pay, personal development, and transparent communication. We also know that you can be great at what you do and still have fun. If that sounds like a good fit, help us bring the next generation of automation solutions to nearly every industry, including manufacturing, food and beverage, renewable energy, water and wastewater, baggage handling and more.

Top Reasons to Work with Us
  • Flexible work schedule with work from home options for numerous roles
  • Weekly communication from management in our internally famous Friday morning meeting
  • Competitive Compensation including a bonus plan
  • No more than a 4 week waiting period on all benefits including the 401k
  • A really rad Christmas Party each year
  • A manager that is cool…most of the time, because no one is perfect
  • A path for growth, a great culture, PTO, AND MORE!
What You Will Be Doing

The Business Development Manager is responsible for automation solution sales in an assigned territory. This is a field sales role focused on the Austin, TX market and the greater South US. You'll be targeting Water/Wastewater, Food amp; Beverage, and General Manufacturing, industries where our solutions make a real impact.

This role requires lead generation, new business development, and account management activities. You'll identify key industries, companies, and contacts to develop sales opportunities, create technical sales proposals, and close deals. You'll rely on our technical team to develop the overall solution that wins the business, your job is to open doors and build relationships.

  • Identify and qualify new sales opportunities within target markets.
  • Manage and grow existing Vertech account relationships.
  • Obtain a clear understanding of the client's objectives and expectations.
  • Architect big-picture solutions with support from the technical team.
  • Negotiate scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Work with Vertech's estimating and technical teams to develop an approach and budget for projects.
  • Write articulate, professional proposals clearly defining Vertech's scope of work.
  • Present proposals to clients and attend client meetings as required.
  • Hand off projects to engineering and follow up during and after to gauge client satisfaction.
  • Manage and attend trade show marketing efforts.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of current technology including major vendor PLC and HMI platforms.
What You Need for this Position
  • BS degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Approximately 5 or more years of industrial automation experience (proven expertise is more important than number of years).
  • 2 or more years of technical sales experience, preferably selling solutions.
  • Thorough understanding of industrial automation system architectures including SCADA and MES.
  • Experience in Water/Wastewater, Food amp; Beverage, or General Manufacturing markets preferred.
  • Excellent writing, document composition, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an outgoing personality.
  • Proven ability to prospect new accounts and build client relationships.
  • Strong negotiation skills and a hunter mentality.
  • Effective time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Willingness to travel (up to 20% of the time) to customer sites as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
