Advanced Air Mobility SpecialistThe Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Division of Aeronautics (DOA) is seeking an Advanced Air Mobility Specialist to support the development and implementation of statewide AAM and UAS initiatives. This role will report to the Deputy Director of Advanced Air Mobility. This role manages program research, operations, and stakeholder communication for projects like eIPP and UAS flight coordination. This position supports diverse applications-including medical/first responder support, cargo delivery, and air taxi services-directly contributing to UDOT's mission of "Keeping Utah Moving."
Key ResponsibilitiesAs the Advanced Air Mobility Specialist, you will:
- Support the Deputy Director of Advanced Air Mobility in the development, implementation, and administration of Utah's statewide AAM and UAS programs.
- Assist with research, analysis, and documentation related to AAM, UAS, UTM, BVLOS, autonomous systems, and emerging aviation technologies.
- Assist with meetings and briefings involving UDOT leadership, stakeholders, state legislators, subject matter experts, vendors, pilots, and industry partners.
- Assist in developing, maintaining, and improving UAS standard operating procedures, best practices, safety expectations, and operational guidance.
- Help maintain and support a UAS pilot training program for UDOT pilots.
- Establish and maintain records for all UAS fleet equipment while managing the division's operational performance dashboard and generating analytical reports.
- Research the latest UAS, AAM, UTM, autonomous systems, and aviation technology developments.
- Support the development and operation of the state test range - sandbox environment, or other AAM/UAS demonstration areas.
- Manage UDOT's daily UAS field operations. This includes establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), developing a comprehensive UAS Pilot training program, meeting regularly with UDOT pilots to build skills, and supporting active missions as the Pilot in Command (PIC).
Minimum Qualifications- Have a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 Drone Pilot Certificate.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- Have at least 3 years of AAM/UAS experience.
- Familiarity with the NAS and FAA regulations.
- Have experience with BVLOS waivers and understanding of UTM principles
- Willingness and ability to travel throughout the State of Utah as needed.
Preferred Qualifications- A bachelor's degree in aviation management, engineering OR equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting test sites - sandbox environments, pilot programs, demonstrations, or technology trials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Proficient at customer/vendor engagement and capable of crafting memos, meeting notes, reports, and white papers.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills, able to translate technical findings into actionable plans.
- Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with uncrewed and autonomous vehicle systems hardware, software, and related technologies.
- Familiarity with aviation/AAM technologies and regulations.
