ARC Intern - Temporary, Full-Time

About Us:
The San Francisco Zoological Society ("Society") is a non-profit institution that manages the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens. Our mission is to connect visitors with wildlife so that they care about nature and ultimately conserve it. For over 30 years, the Society has been continuously accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA).

Availability Requirement:
Must be available from July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027.

Pay: $19.61/hour

Internship Goal & Responsibilities:
Learn and perform duties in the Animal Rescue and Conservation Center (ARC), including:

  • Training Nature Trail volunteers and leading daily operations
  • Maintaining records and scheduling shifts
  • Monitoring guest, animal, and volunteer safety
  • Assisting with husbandry cleaning and animal transport
  • Interacting with guests and supporting ARC public programming

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability and desire to work with youth and people of all ages/backgrounds
  • Ability to follow directions and learn quickly
  • Full availability on weekends throughout the internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by May 1st, 2025
  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Past participation in ARC programs (Nature Trail, Junior Zoologists, or Adult Volunteer)
  • Bilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply

Physical Demands & Environment:
Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, talk, and hear. Must regularly lift up to 10 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Work involves regular exposure to outdoor weather, dust, and animal dander.
