Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for proper setting up of dining room, to include tabletops, side stations and service carts. Proficient on the POS to include proper billing and collection of payment. Friendly, articulate, well-groomed, have solid written and verbal communication skills, well organized and have a willingness to learn. Service-minded and innovative who can help us continue to offer our high standard of quality service.
Essential Duties:
  • Set up dining room to include tabletop, side stations and service carts.
  • Welcome & greet guests in a friendly manner, personalizing the service.
  • Take food and beverage orders in a complimentary means as to increase guest experience.
  • Follow County, Federal regulations and hotel policies in serving alcoholic beverages.
  • Perform all side duties to hotel standards to include opening and closing duties.
  • Able to answer all questions regarding menu items and how they are prepared.
  • Knowledgeable on hotel beverages to include wine and able to make recommendations to pair with menu items ordered as an upsell to increase the guests.
  • Use service carts to enhance guest experience.
  • Direct the meal experience as to timing of the meal is seamless to the guest.
  • Present check to guest and accept payment.
  • Recognize and appropriately respond to irate patrons: contact manager on potential problems.
  • Remove dirty dishes, silverware, and glassware from table and transport to dishwashing area.
  • Reset tables and maintain supplies inside stations throughout service.
  • Consistently perform tasks as specified on sequence of service standards and SOPs.
  • Adhere to applicable liquor laws.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:
  • Recommend the resort's restaurants and facilities to guests.
  • Keep work area and dining room clean and orderly, pick-up trash, wipe spills, etc.
  • Knowledgeable of hotel and Big Island history.

Working Conditions:
  • Copper Bar and Copper Kitchen.
  • Outdoor venue with various weather conditions

Work Hours:
  • Able to work shift and days determined by the restaurant manager.
  • Able to work more than 40 hours per week when needed.

Equipment Use:
  • Proficient in the use of the resort's POS system.
  • Coffee makers, Tea brewers, Cappuccino machine, Espresso machine and Wine key.
  • Service carts and supply wagons.

Mental and Physical Demands:
  • Able to multi-task and organize/prioritize workload.
  • Able to manage stressful & challenging situations when dealing with guests.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, and reach during most of shift.
  • Lift and carry 25 lbs.
  • Push and pull up to and over 50 lbs.
  • Able to train new employees.

Communication Demands:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English to employees, managers and guests.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • Read write English to perform job duties.
  • Candidate must be able to pass assessments to include behavioral, food knowledge, and beverage.
  • Passionate about food and beverage and possess an overwhelming desire to please our guests.
  • Food & Beverage related work experience
  • Dept. of Health TB clearance.
  • Able to multi-task.
  • At least 18 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Must be engaging, friendly and smiling, sharing the "Aloha" spirit.
  • Current recipient of Blue Card, from liquor commission or receive within 60 days of hire.
  • Well-groomed meeting hotels standards.
  • Must be trained in "Responsible Alcohol Service" within 30 days of hire *
  • Must complete Copper Bar Food & Beverage Assessment with a passing rate of 80%. If this rate is not met, the candidate will have up to 90 days to pass the exam with a 100% in order to remain a Copper Captain.
